Leinart Playing With Starting Unit

Cardinals QB Matt Leinart has been managing the team's first-string offense.

Leinart is completely recovered from his collarbone injury suffered last season and is the favorite to start over QB Kurt Warner Week 1. If you can, we would grab both players this year to cover ourselves. Warner showed he can lead the offense when called upon.

Horn Absent

Falcons WR Joe Horn will not attend any team activities until they are mandatory.

Horn is upset about his current position with the team and likely won't start this year. At his age, it will be hard for the team to trade him. The Cowboys had reportedly inquired about him, but Horn won't have much of a role in any offense he plays in this year.

Broncos Shutting Down Robertson

In the interest of protecting their investment, and keeping their new run-stopping force fresh, the Broncos are shutting down DT Dewayne Robertson for the rest of this passing camp. "He probably could practice but we're a little bit cautious with him," said Broncos coach Mike Shanahan. "We know he'll be able to go in the June camp. So we want to get him stronger in a couple different areas."

Robertson, 26, will likely be among the veterans on the one-a-day schedule during training camp. And it's virtually guaranteed he will play less than 65 percent of the snaps in games. Staying below that threshold means the Broncos won't have to give the Jets a 2009 draft pick.

Clemens Nifty

Third-year QB Kellen Clemens, who worked with the first team, had a good day. He completed several nifty passes, including a beautiful deep ball to WR Laveranues Coles. Before practice, coach Eric Mangini dismissed the notion that the organization is rooting for the younger and stronger-armed Kellen Clemens to beat out veteran Chad Pennington for the starting quarterback job. ``I'm pulling for whoever gives us the best chance to win,'' he said. The 1 1/2-hour workout featured a driving hail storm.

Clemens vs QB Chad Pennington will go down to the wire. If you are counting on one to start for your fantasy team, chances are you're in trouble.

Jets Host Smith

Free agent RB Musa Smith visited the Jets on Wednesday.

There is a possibility the team could work Smith into the fullback role if signed. The running back situation is basically set, so Smith won't have much fantasy value.

Beck & McCown Splitting Snaps

Both Dolphins QB John Beck and QB Josh McCown have taken turns working with the starting unit daily.

HC Tony Sparano gave no inkling as to which quarterback has looked better in OTAs, so we will likely have a battle through training camp. With the team still in a rebuilding process, neither quarterback is worth a draft pick.

Meachem Getting Rave Reviews

Saints WR Robert Meachem has been drawing rave reviews in OTAs.

Meachem reportedly appeared "healthy, fluid and comfortable" running routes on Wednesday. He likely won't win a starting job, but could unseat WR Devery Henderson as the team's third receiver. In a high flying offense that the Saints run, Meachem could be a decent bench pick this year if he wins the job.

Hunt Won't Compete With Booker

According to Eagles GM Tom Heckert, RB Tony Hunt and RB Lorenzo Booker are not competing against each other for one job.

Many owners pegged Hunt as the goalline/short-yardage back the team desperately needed, but his liability in pass blocking limited his time on the field. The chances of Hunt being cut this year are highly unlikely since the Eagles don't give up on players too soon. Just ask RB Ryan Moats and DL Darren Howard. Keep Hunt on your dynasty squad, but this will be a make-or-break year for him.

Rice Lining Up As Starter

It's being reported that WR Sidney Rice has been lining up as a starter at the Vikings' OTAs.

Rice has the talent to be a good receiver in the NFL. But with QB Tarvaris Jackson under center, Rice's fantasy value will be very limited. Unless Jackson improves, Rice is nothing more than a WR3.

Walker's Progress Is "Excellent"

According to Raiders OC Greg Knapp, WR Javon Walker's progress from a knee injury "has been excellent."

There were reports earlier that said Walker looked slow, but this is somewhat of a good sign. The former WR1 isn't anything but a WR3 with injury concerns looming over his head. It's highly doubtful that he is 100% healthy yet.

Kennison On Bucs' Radar?

The Buccaneers reportedly have interest in free agent WR Eddie Kennison.

The former Chief was in Tampa on Monday and passed a physical. The Buccaneers seem to want to create a logjam at the receiving position, but don't count on Kennison being a big part of the offense if signed.

Dayne To Visit Titans

Former Texans RB Ron Dayne is visiting the Titans on Thursday.

Dayne's free agent tour has been rather quiet with this being his first visit. Right now, Dayne would likely be the third-stringer behind RB LenDale White and RB Chris Johnson. If signed, Dayne could cut into White's goalline carries. We will keep owners updated. This isn't good news for RB Chris Henry's status.

Winslow A No Show

Browns TE Kellen Winslow has not been in contact with HC Romeo Crennel and hasn't shown up to any OTAs.

Winslow is upset about his current contract, but his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, says his client will show up at June minicamps and training camp in late July. The workouts are voluntary right now, so we expect Winslow to show up to the mandatory ones. Despite his injury concerns, he is still a viable TE1. But make sure you have a handy backup incase his knees act up again.

Glenn Being Held Out

According to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, WR Terry Glenn is "ready to go", but has been held out of OTAs for precautionary measures.

It sounds like Glenn is well on his way to making an impact in training camp after missing last year with a knee injury. We find it hard to believe that he can regain most of his fantasy value given the severity of the injury, so be cautious if you end up taking him with one of your later picks.

Bradley's Availability for Camp Questionable

Bears WR Mark Bradley says he won't miss any training camp this July. “Oh yeah,” he said. “I’ll be ready for training camp. It was just some scar tissue.” The team thinks otherwise, saying Bradley’s return for the beginning of training camp July 23 is questionable.

The 4th year pro only managed six catches for 71 yards and one TD last season, but he is a potential starter in Chicago in 2008. The ball has to go somewhere without WR Bernard Berrian around, so Bradley could get more catches this season. We don't expect his numbers to be that great, however. Only draft Bradley if you have some stud WR's ahead of him, and you hope to catch a potential sleeper.

Jackson Acting Like Starting QB

QB Tavaris Jackson looks the part of starting NFL caliber quarterback early in Vikings OTAs. Jackson has carried himself with a starter's swagger, and he has appeared more demonstrative in the huddle. Best of all, he is launching passes far more decisively than he did last spring.

Jackson has a long way to go to be a top NFL talent, but he's in a pretty good situation in Minnesota. Jackson has the NFL's best rushing game with RB Adrian Peterson and RB Chester Taylor to carry the load, he's mainly asked to be a game manager and pick up first downs throwing or scrambling. Last season, he only threw for 1911 yards, nine TD's, and 12 INT's. He also added three rushing TD's and 260 yards on the ground. This season, we don't expect 3000 yards, but a 2300 yard season and 12-15 passing TD's is defintely possible.

James Finally to See Field

Former Vikings 1st round pick DE Erasmus James thinks he'll be able to play again in 2008. "I've had three knee surgeries in the last year and a half, which has been very difficult on the knee -- especially coming back last year, trying to come back as fast as I could, especially after that second surgery. But everything's on the way to healing now, and I'll be back, like I said, in 2008."

The Vikings already acquired explosive DE Jared Allen to help their team defense; if James can even show a glimmer of his past explosiveness the Vikings could get to the QB quite a bit in 2008. James has no value in IDP leagues right now, but if (and that's a big if) he returns healthy he could pick up 5-7 sacks in pass rushing situations.

Peterson Limited Early

RB Adrian Peterson stood on the sidelines for most of practice. He particiapted in all of Monday’s practice, coach Brad Childress said, and about half of Tuesday’s.

Owners or potential owners of last year's most dynamic rookie, there is nothing to worry about. There is no injury concern with Peterson, Childress is just trying to take it easy on one of the league's most explosive running backs. In keeper leagues, Peterson should be about the first guy off the board, and in any other league he'll probably be a top five pick.

Mount McKinnie Rejoins Vikings

LT Bryant McKinnie was back with the team Wednesday after spending Monday and Tuesday in Miami for a court hearing. McKinnie didn’t answer questions about his legal situation, but he did offer this, "I wouldn’t make any speculation (about missing the season) but I’m hoping to be able to play with the team.” Asked again if he thought he would be with the Vikings for the duration of the season, McKinnie said, “I believe so.”

Again, the Vikings had the NFL's best ground game last year and had RB Adrian Peterson and RB Chester Taylor abuse foes with their talents. Both backs racked up very impressive numbers, and they could take a hit if McKinnie and/or C Matt Birk aren't with the team this season.

OK now I am confused!

By what story?

I just felt that there was something unique with Chappy posting the news bits. Some Huddlers actually suggested the idea.
