Kansas State 2000
The Dallas Cowboys did not want Terry Glenn, who played in only one game last season while recovering from a pair of knee surgeries, participating in team workouts last week. Now, according to Glenn, the Cowboys don't want to be on the hook to pay him, either, if the receiver hurts his knee again. Glenn told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that the Cowboys have asked him to sign a $500,000 injury settlement. Such an agreement would free Dallas of any obligation to pay him if he cannot play this season because of his knee. Glenn is due to make $1.74 million in 2008. "I should have seen this coming," Glenn told the Star-Telegram by text message. Reached Wednesday by The Dallas Morning News, Glenn said, "I really want to play. I thought the team had confidence in what I was doing in the offseason program that I can make it through the season. But with this contract, there might not be that much faith at all." Glenn reported to Valley Ranch last week prepared to work out with the Cowboys, but the team held him out of on-field activity, saying he was an experienced player and the coaching staff would be better served by getting a good look at Dallas' young receivers. Glenn has worked out in the offseason without any problems with his knee. Even Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Glenn looked good during the offseason and in individual throwing sessions. Then, heads turned when the team barred Glenn from last week's workouts. Jones created more confusion by saying, "Well, this is voluntary, so to each his own," as if Glenn was the one who decided not to participate. Jones said recently that newly acquired cornerback Pacman Jones might be asked to play some wide receiver next season, a sign that Dallas might not have full confidence in Glenn's health. The Wolf
Although the Pacman Jones at WR thing is an iffy proposition at best (even for a few plays), this is a business and the Cowbous are protecting themselves. i think it also speaks volumes to the confidence they have in Crayton as their third option. Perchoutofwater
They have WAY TOO MUCH CONFIDENCE in Pacman. IF he can stay out of trouble, he hasn't played in a long time. Really, last time I checked they drafted two more CB's this year in Jenkins and Scandrick, and are very happy with the progress of 2nd year CB Alan Ball, who played in two games at the end of last year. Newman and Henry had injuries most of last year. They only lost Reeves and Jones. Even taking Pacman out of the equation, their CB position is better this year than it was last year. If Pacman is allowed to play it could be one of the best defensive backfields in the league, even with Roy Williams back there.
Bronco Billy
Wait aa minute. They are going to pay Glenn $500,000 to not play football if he can't help the team? Can I get that deal? I promise not to whine like a little school girl about it...

Give me a F@ckin break.... CB, WR, what's next, backup QB??? Maybe he will sell sell Hotdogs at halftime also... It will be a miracle if he even plays a full season. HowboutthemCowboys
IRVING, Texas - Cowboys veteran wide receiver Terry Glenn still isn't on the practice field, but at this time, with the club having started its third week of the four-week OTA session, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones still sounds optimistic about getting the contract issue resolved. "Yes I do, and I thought, frankly, we were close on how we handle the existing injury," Jones said when asked about getting Glenn to sign the split contract the team has proposed. "So hopefully we can work on that." Glenn did not pass his exit physical at the end of last year after having two arthroscopic surgeries to repair damage behind his right kneecap, and according to the Cowboys owner, still is unable to pass a physical at this time. Because of that degenerative problem with the articular cartilage in Glenn's right knee, the Cowboys want him to sign a split contract that would pay him his $1.74 million base salary if he's able to play the entire season and then just $500,000 if the problem with his right knee should cause him to land on injured reserve. And until he signs the split agreement the Cowboys will not allow him to work with the club during these OTA sessions or the June 17-19 mini-camp. The Cowboys realize if Glenn should reinjure the same knee during off-season workouts under his current agreement they would cost themselves cap money. "So how do you get a guy on the field that hasn't passed a physical?" Jones asked, "and that's what we're negotiating on; how we do that regarding that injury but not any other injury he might have?" Jones just figures Glenn will realize his best chance to get paid this year is to deal with the Cowboys, since it would seem the probability is slim another team would sign the soon-to-be 34-year-old wide receiver with knee problems severe enough to fail a physical. The Cowboys, who paid Glenn a $5 million roster bonus last year and basically got four plays out of him, are willing to guarantee Glenn $500,000 to give him a chance to make $1.74 million. What Jones won't do is risk $1.74 million against the cap for a guy who could land on injured reserve for the entire season, Jones saying, "That is not the thing to do. That would hurt the team. "It would surprise me if we didn't ultimately get something worked out."
Clubfoothead
I think there's more here than they are admitting. Maybe Glenn remembers what they did to Jimmy Smith too. The famous ghost of Jimmy Smith. That's a real stretch. Terry Glenn is right, he should have seen this coming. It's the obvious action for the team to take given the circumstances. You could even argue it's the correct move for the Cowboys to make.
Grits and Shins
If Glenn is healthy he shouldn't have any problem with this clause ... but I suspect he knows his legs are shot and wants to cash in one more time before he gets hurt. Dallas should release him if he doesn't agree ... then he can see how many other teams are willing to pay him more.
WaterMan
I'm sure other teams would pay more than 1.8 million.
The Wolf
I'm sure other teams would pay more than 1.8 million. No way...for a WR his age, with his injury history? Not a chance.

The Wolf
Until he does it in Dallas that's history. I am gonna agree with KState here. TO has NOT been the same whiny little baby he was at his prior stops...he does seem to be a different person, so I will put his theatrics in the past...for now. Where I do not think the contract was good for Dallas is TO's age...$35M for a 35 year-old WR is an awful lot. JJ is making it clear that this season is Dallas' time. It's Super Bowl or bust. Maybe the contract was worth it for him to keep TO walking the path he's been on the past two years: team-first, eruptions to a minimum, no complaining.
