The NFL Network has hired Giants play-by-play radio announcer Bob Papa to replace Bryant Gumbel in the TV booth.

The surprise is that Tom Hammond didn't get the job, but either way this will be a monster upgrade. Papa also calls HBO's Boxing After Dark and hosts the Opening Drive on Sirius NFL Radio with Peter King and Randy Cross.

Papa Smurf would have been an improvement over Grumble.

THANK YOU GOD. Gumble was HOOOOOORRRRRIIIIIIBBBBBBLLLLLLLEEEE. It was like he was watching and calling golf while we were watching football.

Gumble "Tony Romo drops back to pass and throws the ball to Terrell Owens and he catches the ball and runs down to the 10 yard line and is tackled there. I'm not sure but I think he might have a first down. No they say he scored. Wow that was unexpected because I lost track of him at the ten with all those bodies out there he looked to be just left of the hole and short."

Bring on Papa, I will love to here his heart break with his voice when the Cowboys beat the Gmen down thrice this year!

It will be quite an upgrade for most games, though it will make any game featuring a NFC East team nearly unbearable if you are not a Giants fan, as he is a huge unabashed homer.
