Favre or no Favre? What are your concerns and whatnot? I read everyones opinion about this but I would llike to know where you guys stand.

Obviously he wants to play again. I am sure he would still give you a chance to win as well but, are you all ready to move on?

thanks.

I've been wavering and would like to see him back another year but it's all about the team. Eventually we will have to move on.

If Ted can get something for him go for it Ted.

Scenarios:

- Favre comes back like nothing ever changed - doubtful, but Rodgers is GONE, probably gets a Matt Schaub type deal somewhere; GB should be good...unless this is the season where all the magic goes away, which happens to aging QBs. Ideally the Pack DON'T have homefield advantage if they make the playoffs, because Brett Favre doesn't look like he can perform in cold weather anymore.

- Favre comes back to GB and there is an "open competition" with Rodgers - hoo boy.

- Favre is traded - most likely; I wish him well, and similar to John's sentiment, I hope whatever team gets him enjoys all the baggage.

- Favre is outright released - no way. Thompson will get SOMETHING for him and make sure he doesn't end up taking snaps for division rivals Chicago or Minny. Or Detroit, for that matter.

What do I WANT? I WANT for this b.s. situation to not have happened. Too late for that, though. I was more than OK with Brett retiring - no more drama, no more ball-gargling, no more of defending Green Bay's GM from Favre's lunatic apostles OR defending Favre from the irrational haters, etc etc.

I think that how he has gone about this somewhat sullies his legacy - I have no doubt he can still play and could have some Montana-in-KC/Moon-in-Seattle/Minny years. But as for the best thing for the team - which is what should matter - I think his departure may not be the best thing SHORT term - they obviously are a damn good team with him as triggerman, yet to be determined how they are with Rodgers (or Brohm) - but LONG term it may be something that had to be done.

Bottom line, if Favre goes to Atl or wherever and wins a Super Bowl while Rodgers and GB struggle, Thompson may be done. If Favre struggles and Rodgers does OK? Eh, Thompson will still probably be "the guy who chased Favre from GB" but whatever.

I 've read this around here a few times lately. He had a good game in the snow in the playoffs last year right?

The temp for that game was in the mid-20s. That's pretty warm.

For "cold" see the single-digits of the 2nd Chicago game and the NFC title game. Or check out the fade Favre pulled in the last 4 games of the '07 season - when the team around him played lights-out D and ran the ball well. Or just ask any Favre critic about his record in big games since the 2000 season.

The guy is darn near inarguably the greatest Packer ever (Don Hutson is the only guy close) but you can't let the aura blind you to the chinks appearing in his game.

Unless the Vikings pony up a 1st round pick I agree. Right now it looks like Tampa will pay. It needs to be done quickly though. They gave a 4th round pick for Plummer.

If he did go to Minny I would expect Woodson and Al Harris to be :D

Pack fan here. I don't like the way things went down either, but I'd welcome Favre back with open arms. You only need look across the landscape of NFL QBs to realize that quality passers are hard to come by. Anyone who says they're confident in Aaron Rodgers based on 3/4 of one football game is a fool. My best case scenario is get a 2-year committment from Favre, trade Rodgers (who likely has more value on the market right now), and groom Brohm.

I disagree with Glazer's report that the Packers will not release Favre if they can't trade him. I think it's highly unlikely they keep him on the roster and have him compete for the job or be a backup. You think it'd be hard for Rodgers to follow in Favre's footsteps if Favre were retired. Try following in his footsteps when he's on the bench with his chinstrap buckled and laces tied. No way Ted Thompson lets that scenario play out.

Why? So they can pad their stats with a couple more interceptions, finish 8-8 and watch the Vikings have one of the best teams in the NFL?

Touchdowns. The DB's have defended Favre's wild throws for years. Now they'll be free to say what they really think and welcome Favre chucking the ball. No one knows him like they they do.

Fair enough. I half heartedly looked for some cold weather stats before posting, did'nt find any.

I've got a raging man-crush on Favre. I've had it since he joined GB. With that disclosure, it's time for GB to move on without him. Favre is a great QB to outplay the opposition, lift his team mates to a higher level, and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. That's great if your QB is playing on an overmatched team. This GB team, however, is young and very talented almost all around. I think we saw Favre post great numbers last year after some down years because the team actually lifted his playing level for a change.

With a very talented team, it doesn't need a gunslinger at QB who can reach into the depths of defeat and extract a victory, because the gunslinger type QB can also take a team out of a game with his relentless pursuit of big plays. I look at last year's DAL game, where Favre kept throwing way down field looking for that hugh play and DAL just pounded the ball and started pulling away from GB. Then Favre got hurt, Rodgers entered and started surgically dissecting the DAL D with what they gave him, and all of a sudden GB scores on 2 prolonged drives and was right back in the game. That's the type of team GB can be now, and that goes to Rodger's strength as a QB and away from Favre's. Favre doesn't want to sit patiently and take the 5 to 7 yd gains, directing repeated 10 to 14 play drives. He wants to hit the home run. He's the wrong QB at this time for this team.

So while I love Favre and always will, it's time for him to move on and let Rodegrs take the helm, for better or for worse. Ship him to an AFC team who thinks they are a QB away from making a playoff run - maybe BAL or the Jets. Let him shine one last time. But not with this GB team. It has aspirations above just making the playoffs, and Favre is the wrong guy to take snaps for it. And don't, for any reason whatsoever, let him play in Bears blue & orange or especially Viking girly purple. He doesn't deserve to end his career ignonimously like that.

Vikings balk at QB playing in Minnesota

Can you picture Brett Favre in purple?

Two veteran Vikings cannot.

Pro Bowl defensive tackle Pat Williams said he has full confidence in the development of Tarvaris Jackson as the Vikings' quarterback.

"I love my team," Williams said Friday. "I will ride it out with T-Jack. He's been with us, and he's made progress this offseason."

Receiver Bobby Wade said the current crop of players has a "feel for each other."

"I think we have the makings of a championship team," Wade said. "I wouldn't trade Brett Favre for anybody on our roster right now."

One of the more intriguing and confusing stories of the NFL offseason took another strange turn Friday. ESPN.com reported that Favre's agent, Bus Cook, sent a letter to the Packers asking for the quarterback's unconditional release. The letter also suggested, according to ESPN.com, that the team honor his request with "no strings attached" because of what Favre has done for the franchise.

Then, Foxsports.com reported that the Packers have no intention of granting that request and that the club, if anything, would welcome him as a backup to Aaron Rodgers. Foxsports.com had another interesting point: In March, Favre waffled on whether to return. The Fox report said the Packers sent a jet to Mississippi to pick Favre up so he could make his return official, only to have him decide days later to stay retired.

Green Bay general manager Ted Thompson certainly wouldn't want to release Favre if he were going to sign in Minnesota. One unthinkable result for the Packers would be the possibility of Favre returning to Lambeau Field ... for the season opener ... on "Monday Night Football" ... in a Vikings jersey.

Because Jackson isn't an established quarterback and the Vikings are otherwise considered a playoff contender, many analysts are mentioning Minnesota as a likely destination. There have been numerous rumors to that end, most notably from radio station 1250 WSSP in Milwaukee, which reported Friday that the Vikings have inquired about Favre. Sports Illustrated NFL Insider Peter King said Minnesota is Favre's "team of choice," highlighting the presence of Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, who was Favre's quarterbacks coach for three seasons.

Vikings officials were not available for comment.

Williams said he can understand the frustration coming out of Green Bay about the situation.

"I can see how Green Bay feels," Williams said. "They went through the whole offseason with Aaron Rodgers, and they made him their starting quarterback."

Still, both Williams and Wade said they would support whatever decision Vikings coach Brad Childress, vice president Rick Spielman and owner Zygi Wilf make.

"Our administration will handle that decision," Wade said. "But for me, it would be a disservice to think about that until something solid happens."

Wade said there seems to be a buzz about a high-profile veteran every year.

"The name speaks for itself," Wade said. "But we're not going to let it be a distraction."

Wade said he spoke to Jackson a few days ago, and Favre never came up during their conversation.

"You can't give it any thought," Wade said of Jackson's mind-set. "If you do, you lose focus."

Wade said Jackson has taken too much of the blame for the issues of the Vikings' passing offense, a unit that has taken great strides this offseason.

"Things progress for a reason," he said. "Being a wide receiver, I'm very comfortable with Tarvaris. I want Tarvaris to lead this team this season and play to the level I know he's capable of and shut up all the critics."

Williams said Favre would be a solid fit in the Vikings' West Coast offense, and he said Vikings fans would "open their arms to him."

As for Favre's preparedness, given his absence from the entire offseason program, Williams said that wouldn't be a concern.

"A guy like that - an old-school vet - training camp would be enough," Williams said.

Still, Favre wouldn't walk into Winter Park as the main man.

"We got leaders, so he won't take our locker room over," Williams said.

Yet all this talk makes Wade uneasy. He's still upset about the Packers sweeping the Vikings last season.

"He's still the enemy. He's a Green Bay Packer. And the taste I have from the Packers last year - I'm not a Brett Favre fan right now," Wade said. "Until he signs a contract and shakes Zygi's hand, he's the enemy." :D

It would be nice to be able to watch a game without worrying about Favre throwing an INT every time he puts up a bomb.
