saintgriff42
just wondering what kind of year do yall think he will have . Better than last year or have a drop off in production
DMD
When they drafted Chris Johnson, the Titans were committing to a committee backfield that will rely on White for all the heavy lifting and goal line duty but undoubtedly insert Johnson into the lineup enough to impact White's numbers. I would expect WHite to score about as often as last year but have lesser yardage.
budlitebrad
I think his twinkie consumption will be pretty comparable to last season.
BeeR
I think Johnson is Bennett-like (ie speed and little else) and won't steal carries as much as people think. White is worth a mid/late-round flyer.

Color me skeptical that Chris Johnson is anything better as a RB than Chris Henry is. If that's the case, White ought to post similar numbers. Capt. Stanky
I'm on the LWhite bandwagon this year. He played last year on a bum knee. That gets you brownie pts in my book. I think CJohnson will only help keep White fresh. I have him ranked as the 21st RB in a Non-PPR league. Right behind Turner and right ahead of McFadden.  Projection  1300 total yds and 10 total TD's Edited July 16, 2008 by Capt. Stanky
Bachi Boy
Bronco Billy and Beer beat me to the punch. I have compared Chris Johnson and Chris Henry to Michael Bennett in a previous thread myself. They are track stars, not football players. I wasn't high on LenWhale White heading into last season, but I was wrong with him. Considering they didn't do much to upgrade the WR's, I anticipate Tennessee taking a ground and pound approach to every game this season. I would trust LenWhale as my RB2. budlitebrad
I think CJ could be good for around 5 catches a game. Could be worth more of a look in PPR.

I wouldn't go as far to say Chris Johnson isn't a football player. Â Henry... he was drafted in the 2nd round last year. It was a reach then and now it looks like an even bigger reach. At the time, he was drafted as a project with upside (blazing speed, ideal RB size) but they certainly didn't pin any hopes on him. Also, it's fair to say that Henry is more of a workout warrior than a football player because he barely did anything on the football field in college. Â Bennett... he was a track star but seemed like a decent RB coming out of Wisconsin. Of course, he was a RB running in a system and behind an OL that allowed Dayne to win the Heisman. I'd say quite a few people were fooled into thinking Bennett and Dayne were something they weren't. Of course that's not to mention that Bennett is more known for his injury issues than anything else. Â Johnson... I don't think he ever did track at ECU. He started 36 of 47 games at ECU, 6,993 all-purpose yds, 2,982 rush yds on 624 attempts, 4.7ypc, 1,296 rec yds, 125 recs, 44 total TDs, and returned kicks. Â IMO, Johnson is more of a proven football commodity/prospect than Henry or Bennett coming out of college. Take for example the stats of another all-purpose back with similar numbers... 6,541 all-purpose yds, 3,169 rush yds on 433 attempts, 1,301 rec yds, 95 recs, 42 total TDs, and returned kicks. Anyone care to take a stab at who? Edited July 16, 2008 by kingfish247
kingfish247
And about his effect on White... Â I think DMD's assessment is dead on. White and C.Johnson seem like perfect complements to each other. Â I'd add though that I think Johnson has the goods to unseat White as the starter. Don't have a crystal ball to say he absolutely will start over White... I just think Johnson is certainly capable. I have yet to see him break a tackle. He runs around people, not through them. You can't do that in the NFL like you can in college. This is where his teammate, Bennett and Reggie Bush have all failed on the pro level. They can't run around people, nor can they break tackles. Again, this guy is a track star, not a football player. Not too many of these combine heros turn into NFL success stories. There are a few, just not very many.

I just think Johnson is certainly capable.  Chris Johnson's size (5-11 197) and Jeff Fisher's philosophy on the running game are two factors that point to Johnson just being a change of pace/3rd down back. I could see him getting more reps at WR since Tenn still hasn't gotten VY any viable options at that position.
DMD
When did Tiki Barber or Brian Westbrook ever break tackles? And neither of those "under-sized" backs had the college success that CJ had.

Bennett also failed because he couldn't lace up his shoes without spraining an ankle or tweaking a hamstring. Â Bush has failed as a primary RB. But I wouldn't count 83 and 73 recs as a failure. I think anyone that takes a late round redraft flier on Johnson would hope he fails to Reggie Bush levels of 60+ recs, ~70-80 total yds per game, and a couple TDs. Â I think the possibility for more from Johnson (more than just a guy who'll catch a bunch of passes and return a few kicks) is there due to White's injury issues and Henry's struggles. You can disagree on Johnson's prospects as a pro but the fact is he's not just some "combine hero" or "track star". A "combine hero" or "track star" doesn't start 36 of 47 games and amass almost 7,000 all-purpose yards. I think the guy can play football. kingfish247
Marshall Faulk? Nah. Interesting though. Faulk posted huge rushing yardage at SDSU (4,589) but not sure what he did in the passing game. I don't recall him returning kicks. Faulk's 62 total TDs put C.Johnson and his recent statistical doppleganger to shame. Â Needless to say I wouldn't ever compare C.Johnson to Faulk coming out of college.
