twiley
http://www.bernssteakhouse.com/ If you've got about 20 mins. to waste read the entire menu. It'll sum up the dining experience. Dined here Saturday evening. Amazing and well worth it. They have if not the largest but one of the largest wine cellars in the nation. After dinner we got a tour of the cellar and kitchen. Roller Coasters
Did you not go to the dessert room after dinner? Each table in the dessert room is it's own room. This and the St. Elmo in downtown Indianapolis are my two favorite steakhouses. Simply amazing.

My then-fiancee, now wife and I dined there with some friends about 4 years ago. The place is simply amazing...took the tour as well and loved the private tables upstairs for dessert. What is really amazing is the apprenticeship that each waiter has to go thru before they become a waiter...they have to work in every part of the restaurant and continually are tested. It can take up to 5 years before someone becomes a full-time waiter there...but many of these folks make over $100K per year. Yes...they are THAT good. I believe it, our waiter could have easily been a top sommelier in any other restaurant but he told me he has already put to much time and effort into becoming a waiter at Bern's. He said the Sommelier's that work there do VERY well, better than the waiters. Edited July 28, 2008 by twiley

Rovers
9 bucks for potato chips?
twiley
9 bucks for potato chips? Based on everything I had there I wouldn't be surprised if they grew their own potatoes and that they were the best damn chips you'd ever eat. A waiter a few weeks ago that lived in Tampa told me more about Bern's. They will only hire people with a min. of a bachelors degree and they must not have any other wait experience. Once hired they are required to spend their first year of training on the Bern's farm where they grow all of their produce. They then work their way up the ladder (kitchen, busboy, etc) and become a waiter.

ETA: That trip is a yearly one where 12 of my college buddies let it all out and go nuts. I tried to organize a meeting during this trip a few years back with Bier and some other people while we were in Denver but it's so crazy and unorganized that it was impossible to really get anything going. Since then I just try not to meet up with anyone. Hell, we left a few fraternity brothers high and dry that lived there because we couldn't stick to our plans.
