pacman9478
Just wondering if anyone had any news on DB's playing on special teams. In my league we get points from defensive categories as well as what a player does on special teams. McGee is a big name player in my league because he starts at CB and returns kickoffs. I was just wanting to know if there are any possibilities that we could see this from other DB's this season (pacman maybe??) Thanks
TaffKiwi
There was some talk around Buffalo I read earlier in the year that the Bills may take McGee off returns this season because he's too valuable to the D to risk an injury on special teams. He missed a couple of games last year and it's possible they may give all the returning to someone like Roscoe Parrish I think I read? Other guys who may be doing som returning, Ellis Hobbs maybe, Adam Jones, Darelle Revis maybe in New York but Leon Washington did a good job there last season. There's Justin Miller still kicking around there too.

Tford
Antrel Rolle Roderick Hood Antonio Cromartie (probably much less KR than he did last year) Tramon Williams Will Blackmon Wouldn't be surprised to see one of the rookie 1st round CBs get some KR duty FYI Chris Gamble didn't get one look at KR/PR last year as most went to Ryne Robinson. I think his days of double duty are over.
TheShiznit
doesn't Charles Woodson return kicks/punts?
Big John
doesn't Charles Woodson return kicks/punts? The Packers currently have Will Blackmon, then Tramon Williams as ther punt and kick returners. Edited August 6, 2008 by Big John

SF409ers
Chris CarrJosh Wilson T McGee Ellis Hobbs Rossum JR Reid Tramon Williams Dexter Wynn Michael Griffin FWIW - Rossum was brought in to do return work but he will most likely not see much playing time at CB so I am not sure he would be of any real value. darin3
Some good names have been mentioned. Some notes: -- Antrel Rolle could see some time returning punts, especially if Steve Breaston gets extended time as the Cards' slot/#3 WR. -- Tom Zbikowski could see some time returning punts, and might figure into the safety rotation for the Ravens. -- Deltha O'Neal could once again get time at punt returner for the Bengals, although Antonio Chatman will probably hold this role -- With Terence Newman (the Cowboys' preferred punt returner) shelved, you never know.... Pacman? -- Will Blackmon will most likely be the KR/PR option for the Packers, and will see time as the nickel CB. -- Right now, T.J. Rushing is set as the KR/PR for the Colts, but is buried on the CB depth chart -- B.J. Sams is a nice sleeper KR/PR for the Chiefs. He can play CB but probably won't figure into the defensive mix with the young talent the Chiefs have in the defensive backfield. -- And keeping with the initials theme, it looks like R.W. McQuarters may return kicks for the Giants. But since he got burned faster than a pile of leaves soaked in gasoline last year, I doubt he spends much time defending receivers. -- Little-known Tyvon Branch might be the punt returner for the Raiders, although I could see them trying to get the ball in Johnnie Lee Higgins' hands as much as possible. -- The Eagles' Quentin Demps is a nice deep sleeper this year, as it appears he'll spend some time at both KR and PR (or at least backing both up), and with any luck, he'll be a solid backup safety too. -- Antonio Cromartie remains as the "big name" in this category, but as someone may have mentioned, his time could be limited returning punts/kicks. Darren Sproles looks to fill those roles. -- Allen Rossum is a name you may want to watch, for the Niners. But he'll be buried on the CB depth chart. -- A real good name to watch, as noted by devilwoman, is Josh Wilson with the Seahawks. With the recent injury to Bobby Engram, you'll see the incumbent KR/PR Nate Burleson bumped up to the #1 WR for Seattle. That said, they may slide Wilson in as the KR. And if he excels there, I could see them giving him time returning punts as well, as WR Ben Obomanu could see his WR time increased. Wilson will also see some time as the third CB. -- Chris Carr is another solid name, although he won't see much time playing defense. He will, however, return kicks and punts for the Titans. Randall
JS ONLINE: SPORTS: PACKERS: Friday training camp report Posted: Aug. 8, 2008 THUMBS UP One of the hottest battles in camp is being waged for the nickel back job. Tramon Williams remains the front-runner but Will Blackmon, Pat Lee and Jarrett Bush all are in the hunt. Then there’s free agent Joey Porter, who looks faster than them all. Porter flashed his potential Friday night, smothering Jordy Nelson on a post-corner route in the one-on-one drills that had no chance to be completed. Lee, the second-round pick, started camp slowly but is beginning to come on. He had two interceptions Friday night, snaring an underthrown ball in the middle and scrambling to take a deflected ball away from WR Brett Swain. Not to be outdone, Blackmon intercepted a batted ball in heavy traffic. And Bush had an interception in his hands but dropped the ball. Earlier, Williams meted out a lusty blow on WR Chris Francies and then broke up two passes. Edited August 13, 2008 by Randall
