Azazello1313
interesting. definitely a case of BOTH jackson disappointing and royal impressing, I guess you just hope it's the latter more than the former. this team needs djax to contribute something. also, it's easy to start getting a little excited about royal, but this whole thing is very reminiscent of darius watts a few years back -- the somewhat obscure 2nd round pick, coming in and lightin up camp, then.... but I guess it's also pretty reminiscient of brandon marshall, and that one turned out OK. so who knows. Folks are reading too much into this. What this means to me, is that none of the other WRs has what it takes to play in Marhsall's spot while he is suspended. DJack has the knowledge and experience in this offense and will step into the starting role in Marshall's place until he returns--at which point he will go back to the other starting spot. Way too much being made of this, considering there hasn't even been a preseason game yet. I find it funny when the fantasy sites start blowing these mini headlines into major stories regarding the line-ups. This just makes DJack that much easier to acquire in the later rounds, with WR2 potential...
rai
after having Travis Henry and Selvin Young last year and Tatum Bell a couple years ago .. I don't think I'd draft any player from Denver who is not named Terrell Davis. Edited August 8, 2008 by rai
budlitebrad
Definitely good news for dynasty owners, but I don't take the depth chart (especially Shanahan's) too seriously during the preseason.

Zooty
Ehhh, A rookie starting the 1st pre-season game. Not a big deal IMO. DJax and his bad knees don't really need to play. I think the depth chat might change before the 1st real game
Savage Beatings
I remember hearing stories about DJax from both Seattle and SanFran, basically saying that even though the guy has a ton of talent, his work ethic stinks and he pretty much mails it in during the pre-season. It ticked off a lot of players and coaches over the years. I'm guessing that this is just a message from the coaches to DJax in regards to his work ethic. When it comes to gametime talent and experience, it will be tough for them to bench him on Sundays (especially with Marshall suspended). ROYALWITCHEESE
You had me until you said WR2 potential. Key word: potential. Knowing his history and the need for a WR opposite Marshall, is 800-900 yards and 5-7 TDs out of the question? Sure it puts him on the low end of WR2s. Regardless of what we think his "fantasy" rank is, it doesn't change that he will likely be the starter when Marshall gets back...
statman08
Can you trust anything that Denver says durring the preseason? They are one of the most difficult teams to figure out, and they are usually so spread out that the players are only worth late round flyers in fantasy football (well besides their RB's if you can pick the right one). bushwacked
When it comes to gametime talent and experience, it will be tough for them to bench him on Sundays (especially with Marshall suspended). I think you have to balance out his talent by considering the only scheme he had personal success was the WCO. Are guys like Engram, Djax, Jennings, and Driver really that talented or do they also reap considerable benefits from the system and the QB? Bronco Billy
Well, that's overreaching a bit. Jackson is the starter at WR. The Marshall suspension has forced him to move from his starting spot opposite Marshall to taking Marshall's spot in the O, so he has been placed in the #2 spot in the depth chart behind Marshall to work that position. Because Stokley is going to have his touches limited in the slot, that leaves the next best WR to move into the spot that Jackson has temporarily vacated - and that's Royal. This is a temporary move. Royal has been impressing, but as a rookie who will most likely also return KOs and Ps, he figures to move to the #2 spot behind Jackson & Marshall as soon as Marshall returns. Royal may be a very good WR in the future, but if you are looking at redraft potential this year, Royal figures to be limited as Stokely is as far as WR, starting as soon as Marshall returns -barring an injury/more Marshall stupidity. I know but I don't believe in miracles. I drank the kool aid last year. He may start but unless he plays better than their other players he won't be for long. I'd like to see Scheffler line up in the slot or outside.
AtomicCEO
Royal looked ok the first few series. It's clear he's got great quickness and god hands and maybe he'll avoid rookie mistakes in the next game. One deep throw, he just clearly ran the wrong way as the ball dropped in a hole 15 feet to his right. On a short throw, he should have stopped in the gap of zone coverage, but instead tried to outrun a guy that wasn't there, ran into a defender, and the ball happened to hit him in the hands as he bounded off. Still think so? Nice preseason for Royal so far...Royal is definitely NOT a WR5 as listed on the Huddle's fantasy depth chart. Late round flyer is sounding better ans better. Bronco Billy
Still think so? Yep Royal is definitely NOT a WR5 as listed on the Huddle's fantasy depth chart. No. He's WR4 in DEN. 1) Marshall 2) Jackson 3) Stokley (slot in 3-wide sets) 4) Royal Royal will be returning kicks also, so it will actually help him a bit in his rookie year to be getting a break. He'll probably start the first 2 weeks because of Marshall's suspension, and he'll get on the field enough as the primary backup to both Marshall & Jackson. But with DEN's WR corps suddenly having some depth, barring injury he's going to have a relatively low ceiling.
Jimmy Neutron
I don't know that Royal will make a big splash this year, but it's nice to see we have a kid of that caliber in the works. We're still missing that Easy Eddie, big, possession-type receiver.

I would be surprised if he caught more than 30 balls this year playing receiver. He was brought in to return kicks and punts, and that's good enough for me. Also, I am reserving judgement on Jackson for now. I don't have hugh expectations for him, and if he were able to catch 60 balls this season I think that's about right. The key is, making those catches for first downs and keeping the offense on the field.
