  1. 1. How will you treat the Titans running backs on fantasy draft day?

    • Eyeing Tennessee Thunder & Lighting as my RB2
      1
    • Love Tennessee Thunder & Lighting as my RB3
      7
    • I'll avoid LenWhale but take a shot at that superfast rookie
      12
    • Johnson's a flash in the pan, but I do like LenDale's between-the-tackles thunder
      4
    • Too many bodies involved in this scenario for my taste

Consider this Son of Fantasy University. Each day we’ll make a post regarding a fantasy-relevant player or situation; then, we’ll turn the mic over to you and hear what you have to say.

Today’s candidate: the Titans running game

Okay, we’ve all seen the video. Chris Johnson is really, really fast. What do we do with this information?

Jeff Fisher loves to run the football, and Vince Young is, uh, still developing as an NFL passer… though if you saw his run during the preseason opener (video here, with a bonus of Johnson’s run with a spotlight on just where Chris Long ended up on that play), maybe a switch to the wishbone isn’t as crazy as you might think. There are 400-plus carries to be had in this running game, and while Johnson was a first-round pick it’s unlikely the rookie is slated for 300 of them. LenDale White is a great between-the-tackles banger, but his track record suggests he’ll be best served with his carries kept around the 250 mark for the season.

Is there a fantasy tag-team to be had here, something along the lines of LenDale in round five and Johnson three rounds later? Are you comfortable with that as your fantasy club’s RB3 or even RB2? Will Johnson’s highlight reel push his value significantly higher than the 133rd overall it was sitting at prior to his run? Or does his emergence just muddy a situation you’ve already written off as fantasy poison?

I wonder how many more times huddlers are gonna ask this questino 2v. And its not even high traffic season yet lol.

I'm gonna TRY to avoid TENN run game this year. Of course I'll take either RB if the value is there, but as much as TENN wants to run the ball, there D will not allow them to do so. Its gonna be an interesting year for V.Young and company.

Have to like what Chris Johnson did last week though it was just one run. A really fast one, but just one all the same. My contention is that Lendale White will do about the same as he did last year and that Johnson will either be additional production or not. If the Titans will use him a lot, I think he could be worthly of a RB3 or even a RB2 potentially. It is still early but so far he has been impressive. I want to see TEN use him more as a receiver as well which they have gotten away from in recent years.

In a draft that I am in at the moment, I was considering Johnson first, then Lendale later on if he was available. White went in the seventh and, because the You Tube video of Johnson's run this weekend is spreading like wildfire, I reached a bit and took him at 8.09.

Johnson brings a dimension that White does not, and with the lack of playmakers at the WR spot, I feel that Tennessee will ride this kid fairly hard. Between his rushes and receptions, I can see him getting 15-16 per game and being very productive doing so.

He will lose goal-line carries and when Tennessee throws in the red zone, Crumpler will likely be the first option. Still, he will make a solid RB3 or flex player for someone.

IMO, the Titans should mirror the Jags approach. Look what happened to MJD when most people thought he was too small. My only problem with the Jags is that they don't use MJD enough. If he's your star offensive player, he needs to be on the field. I'm wondering why teams don't use the dual backfield more. In the Jags case, you could send MJD out in the flat as either a decoy or on a screen. This would open up more holes for Freddie T. It will be curious if Fisher does this exact thing. At least give it a shot.
