New Depth Chart: Langford a First Teamer; Roth an OLB

By Ben Volin | Monday, August 18, 2008, 05:59 PM

Some more movement on the Dolphins depth chart as they prepare to face Kansas City this weekend.

The biggest changes come at left defensive end. Matt Roth occupied that spot the first two weeks, but he is now being listed as the strong outside linebacker. That has caused a couple other dominoes to fall.

*Rookie third-rounder Kendall Langford leap-frogged Randy Starks, and is now listed as the First Team LDE. Starks is still the backup.

*Joey Porter was moved from strong to weak outside linebacker, bumping Charlie Anderson to the Second Team and Quentin Moses to Third Team.

*

Ricky Williams has ascended to First Team running back, and Ronnie Brown is now behind him.

*

Boomer Grigsby and Reagan Mauia have flip-flopped at fullback, and now Grigsby is the starter.

*

Trey Darilek is now the backup at center, and Matt Spanos is Donald Thomas’ backup at right guard.

*

WRs Anthony Armstrong and Jayson Foster swapped, with Armstrong now being listed first.

*

Michael Lehan returned to practice Monday, but is not listed on the depth chart.

*

Finally, the QBs continue to be listed by seniority: Pennington, McCown, Beck, Henne.

Here it is …

Sparano: “No chance that we’re trading Ronnie.”

By Edgar Thompson | Tuesday, August 19, 2008, 12:49 PM

Coach Tony Sparano shot down a rumor the Dolphins could be shopping running back Ronnie Brown.

“No chance that we’re trading Ronnie,” Sparano said early this afternoon. “I understand another rumor is flying out there. Last week, it was (quarterback John) Beck. This week it’s Ronnie.

“There was no discussion of that internally or externally. None.”

Speaking on Monday Night Countdown, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen said Brown could be playing for another team this season. Mortensen’s comment was based on the fact that Ricky Williams has looked so good, while Brown has looked mediocre during two pre-season games.

Adding fuel to the rumor was Mortensen seen on the sideline chatting with Fins GM Jeff Ireland before Saturday’s game in Jacksonville.

Given the plans of the Dolphins’ offense to lean on the one-two punch of Williams and Brown, Sparano said the rumor wasn’t a tough one to quash.

“That is easy,” he said. “I wish they were all like that.”

As for Brown’s slow start less than 10 months removed from an ACL tear, Sparano said “it’s been hard” to get an idea how Brown looks in a game environment.

He played only five plays during the pre-season opener against Tampa and four plays last weekend at Jacksonville before spraining his right thumb. Brown has six rushing yards on five carries in the two games.

“We really haven’t been able to get him a lot of work that way,” Sparano said. “I really assess just the body of work over the 30 practices or so.

“From that standpoint, I’ve seen him progress really well.”

pretty tough talk for a newbie tool that's never posted anyting. i read thru some of the threads you've responed in and it's pretty clear your an a$$- hat. i'll be keeping an eye out for you d-bag.

I sense rage. Maybe a little suppressed gay feelings perhaps?

And who was trying to be tough? It looks like YOU'RE (not "your", as you apparently spell it) the one that's trying to be "tough" with the name-calling.

Keeping an eye out for me? Uh-oh. I'm officially scared.

You're a class act. :D

R. Brown can be had on the cheap these days. Let's not forget that he was killing it last year before he got hurt and he's only 10 months removed from a major injury. Ricky looks good at practice and during the pre-season but he hasn't played a full season in the NFL in a long time and his first game back last year he got hurt almost immediately.

Brown isn't done yet.

Ricky got hurt because a 260 pounder jumped on his back at full speed going for a loose ball.

Ricky should start the season and Brown used slowly at first and more as the season goes on.

If Ricky looks dependable Ronnie could be traded, but that's speculation on my part. Now maybe Ronnie will be there in late rounds.

This is how it's playing out as of now. Still 2 more weeks of pre-season though.

It was a nasty injury. I think he had his pectoral muscle ripped from his shoulder being stomped on.

I doubt the Dolphins trade Brown. There still has to be that lingering thought that Ricky could f*ck up again and having 2 solid RB's is a luxury most NFL teams cherish.

no, i'd say you are the classy one. you have never put up a post. you are new here. but you feel the need to chime in now. even though i fight, and bicker, and disagree with alot of these guys, i respect them. and i respect their opinions, -even when i don't agree. because, you see, they've posted their opinions before,(unlike you), so they have a right to criticize. i know that when it comes to football, thay have some knowledge.( i know this from their posts). i don't respect you. as far as i'm concerned you have no football knowledge. (you've never posted any useful info). like me or not, at least i've contributed some useful info....-so run away now, back into obscurity, where you belong. and don't interupt the adults again. it's not a spelling bee, it's a FOOTBALL forum. (not that you would know anything about that) :D

Aww, isn't that cute? Two of the board's biggest jerks are lovebirds! :D

I'd rather be a jerk than a jerkawf  One day you'll gather a quantity of football acumen and share it with us. Until then keep grasping for a sense of belonging by piggy backing on other members disagreements. You have no brain and no balls :D

That's true. They could be formiddable together. If the season looks bad though they could trade one of them. Ricky/Ronnie to Denver?

end of the 9th. I don't play with bums either but I suspect some snuck into the league without me knowing :D

They didn't inform you? If he does regain his form many will be sorry they didn't gamble a 9th round pick on him. At that spot he has hugh upside.

If he fails what do you lose? A 4th RB or WR?

Yay, way to backtrack, fella! How long did it take to formulate this gem of a response?

Sounds like you need a hug. Fortunately....

I obviously have more of a brain than you two dimwits that feel the need to name-call like a couple of fat, spoiled 5-year olds. Nice job!

You'd think a couple of "vets" would sniff out a fishing expedition, but I guess when you bait a couple of this site's biggest jerkwads, it's pretty easy.

:D *POOF* Back I go into "obscurity" with a couple of trout in tow.
