Tarvaris Jackson

It doesn't seem too serious at first glance, but doesn't give you much confidence in his durability.

Yea....he scrambled around the end and it looked pretty harmless. Actually runs the next play and zings a pretty good out pattern to the sideline for anther first down....and then goes down untouched. :D

Apparently happened on the previous play, but seemed pretty wimpy.

He's now walking around on the sidelines talking to other players that have been removed from the game...

From the Star Tribune:

Jackson injured

August 16th, 2008 – 7:21 PM by Judd Zulgad

BALTIMORE — Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson is done for the night after injuring his right knee on Minnesota’s second drive of the game.

Jackson was injured on a second-and-10 play from the Vikings 48 when he scrambled for a 9-yard gain and was hit by Ravens linebacker Antwan Barnes and then safety Dawan Landry at the end of the run. Jackson was limping as he got up but stayed in the game.

Adrian Peterson gained 2 yards on third-and-1. On the next play, Jackson threw a 12-yard pass to Sidney Rice. The quarterback then hobbled toward the Vikings bench before laying down on the field. He was eventually helped to the bench area and examined by Vikings head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman and team doctor Joel Boyd.

Jackson, who missed three games last season because of injury, was replaced by Gus Frerotte. Jackson is currently sitting in the bench area with an ice pack on his right knee.

Childress: Jackson's knee bruised

BALTIMORE — Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson is done for the night after injuring his right knee on Minnesota's second drive of the game.

Jackson had a brace-like sleeve on his knee as he left the field after the first half. He was definitely limping. Coach Brad Childress told KSTP at halftime: "He's fine. He's got a bump on the knee. We're keeping him in at half to get some ice on it. He's got a contusion."

Is Gus Frerotte even worth considering Viking fans?

I wouldn't really think so, but he looked ok after replacing T-Jax that night. He made a terrific throw off his back foot going down under a rush on a mid-range deeper sideline ball, and seemed to have good zip on some of his passes. He looks very old and slow, but seems to look like he could do ok so far. I wouldn't count on him producing much in fantasy terms, however.

How long is this going to keep him out?

A good rule of thumb is to give TJax an extra week to recover than what an average QB would need with the same injury. Brett Favre he's not. I'll never forget the time when he pulled himself out of a game right at the most crucial moment of it. He walked right off when I don't think any other QB in the league would've done so.
