Steve Eichert
How do you run your fantasy football free agency process? We've been using a style that I think is a little unconventional, however, I'm a really big fan of it and wanted to see if anyone else was using a similar process. From checking out a couple other fantasy football forums it sounds like we might not be the only ones to use an auction style bidding system. The basics of how it works is that on Tuesday morning we open up the bidding. Teams have until either Th at 10pm, or W at 10pm (if there is a Th night game) to place bids for players. Each team can say they want a particular player along with how much they're willing to pay to get the player. All bids are entered into a system which keeps them hidden to everyone in the league until the bidding period ends. Once the bidding period ends all the bids placed for the week are shown, and the commish identifies the winning bids and adds the players to the winning teams roster. We don't cap any bidding, all that is required is for the team to have paid the commish transaction fees for prior weeks. Right now we're lenient here, but we're thinking about perhaps being more strict. Does anyone else use this style for free agent pick ups? We've found it far superior to the traditional waiver wire, as it's not only more fun but also increases the pot a great deal. As a disclaimer, one of the reasons I'm asking if others use this approach is because I'm working on a site to help manage the process. If anyone is using this approach and is interested in hearing more give me a hollar. I'll try and remember to round back here to post a link when the site's ready.
