detlef
If you can grow a fig tree in your climate. F'ing do it! Come this time of year, you just harvest bowls full of the most delicious fruit you'll ever eat. This is the first year our tree has given us much fruit and for the last week or so, I've been going out every morning and picking a huge bowl full of fruit. And those bastages are damned expensive in the store.

Either that or destroy all your toys.

rajncajn
I've got one about 3' tall in my back yard. No figs this year. Growing up there was always someone in my family that had one... very tasty indeed.
SEC=UGA
You need to take some of those, reduce them in red wine with a little rosemary. Then use it on some lamb chops or baste a pork loin with it, it's good. You could also stuff a pork loin with diced fig, onion, little bit of garlic, and slow grill or bake it, that's good also (if yo want to mix it up, throw some bleu cheese in there also). Figs and pork. Right up there with the best of them I've made a fig-chipotle chutney that I serve with brined and roasted pork loin. My favorite use for fresh figs is just to grill them and serve them with some sharp cheese (blue, as you noted, works great). Fresh goat cheese and a drizzle of pomegranate reduction doesn't suck either.
Choppy
O.K. Kansas want's to know what the hell a fig plant looks like. whomper
If i had toys I wouldnt have been throwing figs as grenades I planted a fig branch from my neighbors fig tree last year and it didnt take. This was a branch from a very prolific tree that originated in sicily. My neighbor came over in the beginning of the summer and looked at it and sai it didnt take. I told her to leave it but she didnt listen. She pulled it out and sure as chit it was very green at thr root and definately not dead. Her pulling it out did the tree in though. I'm sure you can at least find dried figs which are tasty and nutritious snacks and keep you good and regular. At any rate, here's some pictures

I want to make something with figs in the recipe. I love to cook but I don't think I'm near the chef that you are so can you give me a simple recipe for an entree that includes figs. I'll look at our grocery store for fresh figs. They have a pretty good produce section but I don't know about figs. I simply have never looked for them before. BTW: I think Roy and them Tarheels are gonna be the team to beat this year. You gotta be excited. I hope they don't get a chance at redemption against the Hawks cause that could be ugly for a KU fan. Well, first thing about figs is that they have a very specific and short season. Around here, they've pretty much run their course but where I come from in Northern CA, they're in peak season. You are certain, however, to be able to find dried figs and you can make some tasty sauces for meat with them. I've made a fig-chipotle sauce for pork loin that's pretty on point and quite easy. Brine and roast a pork loin as you would normally do. Or grill some chops, doesn't matter. For the sauce, dice some onion and garlic and sweat until golden. Then add chopped dried figs (making sure to cut off the little stem at the top), some diced canned tomato (not much), some chopped canned chipotle (up to you in terms of how spicy you like it) and about 2 cups water (just enough to make it pretty liquidy. It won't matter because all the water will get reduced out of the sauce). Cook until it has the texture of chuntey or jam and finish to taste with salt and rice vinegar. I grilled some chops for dinner last night and tried out your sauce. Pretty good stuff. Next time I'll try a little more chipotle. I took it pretty easy this time cause my wife and the little Choppy's don't care for spicy foods but I left plenty of room for error. Thanks again.
