Chris Simms, QB

Hold on and let me see if I've got this right. You're saying Chris Simms is at best a mediocre NFL QB, that is fantastic football acumen :D

Well, I'll concede to your judgment. If anyone at this site is an authority on mediocrity, it would be you, Big Ernie.

After watching what David Carr is capable of for the NY Giants, I see no reason why Simms shouldn't replace him there and carry on the tradition.

David Carr is a freakin horrible qb. I'm sure he's a hell of a nice guy............but a freakin horrible qb nonetheless.

I just read the Huddle update and I just have to ask the question:

Exactly what skills is Chris Simms in possession of that provide any value to an NFL team?

Judging by his father's one sided commentary, I'd say none.

Need proof: watch one of his first games against the Panthers.

Well at least Carr is a hell of a nice guy... Simms is a freakin horrible QB and a whiny little prick.

Don't even get me started on his college career. Grade A choke artist who got I don't know how many more chances than he should've based on pedigree alone.

Now he's disgruntled with the Bucs??? Keep in mind the Bucs could've cut his sorry ass AFTER he ruptured his vag... I mean spleen. But no, in late 2006 they agreed on a 2 year extension for, in Simms' words, 'starter's money' (it was in the area of $14 mil, not sure on guarantees). He struggled to make it back in the 2007 offseason and the Bucs had the audacity to bring in a healthy starter.

So this is what you get with Simms... a Grade A a-hole, choke artist that believes he should just be given a starting job without really doing much to prove it or actually being healthy enough to prove it.

Chris Simms always played with a sense of entitlement while at UT. I never liked him, and Major Applewhite was always accomplishing more, although his name wasn't Simms.

I'm not sure where I heard it, but it certainly is plausible: word is that the elder Simms struck a deal with Mack Brown to allow his kid to go to UT if and only if he were named the starter. Simms was considering the "other" UT, Tennessee, and this deal supposedly sealed it.

He was paid $5 mil in 2007 and is due $2 mil this season for 'being held hostage'...

:D

The article is full of zingers you would never expect from a man playing in the NFL...

"The way they handled it was wrong," Simms said. "I don't know if they wanted to cut me and didn't want to liable or they were hoping somebody would trade for me, but for him to say I was completely healthy and passed all the physicals and that I just wasn't performing well, that was a low blow. It was."
.

So you weren't healthy and that's why you weren't performing well?

"He asked me, 'Is this injury in your head?'" Simms said. "I found that completely ridiculous. I was going through a tough time. I kept my mouth shut all summer. I felt I was betrayed to a degree. Nobody took time to talk to me on a personal level and see how I was doing."

Gruden didn't give hugs?

Simms said the club did a series of tests on his elbow and shoulder when he complained of arm tightness, the result of not using his body to throw the ball.

"Anybody with common sense would check the area where there was a 10-inch scar going down the middle of my stomach first."

Ok, so you were complaining of arm tightness and they checked your... ARM! Bunch of freakin' quacks.

It is absolutely plausible now in hindsight. Mack's first season at UT was 1998 so he needed a marquee, big-time prospect for his new job. Simms' first year was '99. Applewhite committed to the previous UT coach, John Mackovic. So ensued a QB battle that shouldn't have ever been a battle and it boils the blood of UT fans everywhere. It's a big reason why even now after UT won a championship UT fans still think Mack is garbage.

What is confirmed is that Simms signed the extension with the Bucs in late 2006 while under the impression he was going to be the starter. It sounds like Gruden wanted him to prove himself after coming back. This probably didn't sit well with Simms. Prior to all of this, Simms was given the starting gig twice. Twice he lost it due to injury. Before the spleen injury he was 0-3 with 1 TD and 7 INTs. What a jerk that Gruden guy is for not keeping the starting spot open for him

Sorry, edit: Mackovic preceded Brown at UT. Applewhite was passed over by Dubose at Alabama.

II recall the 2001 Big 12 Champ game that Simms started, and he literally looked as if he couldn't believe the other team was trying to tackle him...because he was Chris Simms!! I recall they got down big, Applewhite came in and they made a game of it.

Recapped here: 39-37 loss, hang it on Simms.
