Outshined
Upgrade Fitz and downgrade Roddy White? Edited August 25, 2008 by Outshined
wolfden1
Why downgrade Roddy White? Matt Ryan is probably as competent ss a rookie as Redman, Joey H or Leftwich were last year, and they'll probably be playing from behind a lot. I wouldn't move him up any, but not necc. down either. RaiderSteve
Ya, I took a gamble and took Warner as my #2 QB in my dynasty league (Got him for one dollar ) This could really pay off!

Exactly, the rooks always use the #1 WR as a security blanket. Maybe to a fault, but my guess is that Ryan looks his way first every time. kingfish247
It generally seems 1st year starters tend to lean on their TE, not the WR who runs deep routes Except they have no receiving TE. The motley crew of TEs they have may be worth a catch or two for a few yards here and there but none will be a frequent check down option. It's a crew of blocking TEs and they'll need them doing just that the majority of the time given the state of affairs on ATL's OL. Also, Mularkey isn't one to keep the TE active in the receiving game. Unless your FFL format gives points for shoring up the QB's blind side. The only TE to have some success in a Mularkey offense was Randy McMichael in '06 (62/640/3). Even then 3 WRs (Welker/Chambers/Booker) split over 2100 yds and 11 TDs. None of the TEs on the ATL roster have McMichael's receiving ability. Not even close. Edited August 25, 2008 by kingfish247
The Irish Doggy
Heck on that team, White is WR1, WR2, and WR3.
kingfish247
Heck on that team, White is WR1, WR2, and WR3. Pretty much. Mularkey tends to force feed the ball to the WR1 anyways. Remaining WRs get the scraps, RBs get a fair amount of targets if they're capable (Norwood and Turner certainly seem so), with the TE being virtually invisible. darin3
Matt Ryan has looked un-rookie-like from what I've seen so far. I'm not too well-read on the Falcons, and especially their OL, this season. Can a homer or someone in the know talk about the Falcons' OL? Do they pass-protect well? If so, Ryan might be in for a decent rookie season. As for Warner. Dude is 40. He's gonna get sacked a bunch. Leinart will be in, by default, a few weeks in, IMO.
kingfish247
...Can a homer or someone in the know talk about the Falcons' OL? Do they pass-protect well? If so, Ryan might be in for a decent rookie season.... Short answer, no. Not well, but good enough? Yes. The OL has two new starters this year, the rookie Baker and 4th year journeyman Dahl at RG... LT - Baker LG - Blalock C - McClure RG - H. Dahl RT - T. Weiner There are injury concerns at C and RT. McClure and his backup (Stepanovich) have struggled with some lower back injuries this preseason. Weiner is in his 11th season and coming off knee surgery this offseason. He has looked OK but it's anyone's guess as to how long he'll last. They have some depth though... Clabo (5th year) has quite a few starts under his belt, Ojinnaka (3rd year) is decent, and Stepanovich (5th year). Clabo and Ojinnaka can play every position but C however, IMO, both are not suited for LT. Clabo could probably replace Weiner at RT now. Stepanovich can play both guard spots and C. Dahl looks like he took veteran Forney's job due mostly to a combo of Forney dogging it on a fairly hefty contract. If Forney isn't cut for his contract and he gets with the program, that's more depth b/c he is pretty experienced. Last year the OL was forced to change their style away from their strengths to a more straightforward blocking scheme. There should've been more of a transition rather than a wholesale change. This year, OL coach Boudreau (most recently was with the Rams) is playing more to their strengths by using a combo of traditional and ZBS.
