smithkt
interesting Here's what I take away from the article...... 1) The doctor being quoted in the article is not the doctor who has examined Osi, nor will he. 2) When they go in to do the operation, if they can successfully repair it, he will be out for the season. 75% chance of success and means a longer career. Better for Osi. 3) If it can not be repaired, they would likely remove all or part of the meniscus and he could be back in a month. Probably a shorter career. Bad for Osi, good short term for the Giants.
cdrudge
Here's what I take away from the article......... You forgot: 4) Over half the time doctors expect to be able to repair it but end up removing the meniscus. While there is a 75% success rate for repairs, there's only a 50% chance to get a 75% chance. Or about 38% of all cases end up being able to be successfully repaired. That percentage doesn't sound real encouraging.

If I'm Osi, I still take the chance that it can be repaired and despite the poor odds, it sounds like this doctor feels the same way. They don't play football forever and being able to possibly walk without pain for the rest of their life is worth more then a season of football. I think anyone would opt for the surgery that would ensure his long term health. If this doctor is correct, it may be an issue that can't be fixed and the ONLY option is removed the affected area of the ligament.
gasface
removing it is probably a bad thing
