NYCDOG
Anyone watching the Miami game tonight? Ronnie Brown looks like he's having a solid game (albeit preseason). What happened to Ricky Williams? I thought he was supposed to start tonight but it looks like he only got 2 carries. Hurt?
Flip_Side
They're resting the starters....So that pretty much means Ronnie is the #2?

NYCDOG
Reports of Ronnie Brown's demise have been greatly exagerrated. Well that's what I'm trying to determine. I'm assuming he got all his yards and TD against the Saints 2nd/3rd string? It's no secret however that RBs coming back from ACL surgery take more than a year to recover. Considering Sparano said that his call on the starter would be based on this game, I think that bodes well for Brown, 14 touches, 57 yds, and a rush TD. I think we'll see 60-40 Ronnie to start the season and if he produces it will end up more like 70-30 as the season progresses. Now of course I am a Ronnie owner and took him in the 9th round in a 10 team league so I am trying to talk myself into thinking it was a good pick - but he has looked good tonight. Where did you see reporst of Sporano saying that?

I'm in the opposite position, however, having drafted RW late in the draft. I would hate for the RW experiment to end before it even got started, but I do recall Sparano saying that this game would be pivotal. Oh well. Cyclones
how is the starter based on this game if Ricky only gets 2 carries and is out? Where did you see reporst of Sporano saying that? Ronnie Brown participated in practice Tuesday with a soft cast covering his sprained right thumb, and coach Tony Sparano expects him to play in Thursday's exhibition finale, according to the Palm Beach Post. Brown has fallen behind Ricky Williams on the depth chart, but Sparano isn't ready to name Williams the starter. "I need to see more of Ronnie before I make that decision," Sparano said. "If I don't see a whole lot more Ronnie, then Ricky will start." I think he's seen a "whole lot of Ronnie" in the 1st half. Again, I don't know what's going to happen here - but I do know that if both of these guys are healthy, at this stage of their careers, Ronnie Brown is the better back, and its not that close. He led the league in pretty much every RB category last year when he got hurt - on a TERRIBLE offensive football team. If they're both healthy, and the Fins want to win games, Brown will get more work.
RussMan
Brown is running against backups.... but the point is that he is running. His coach is trying to get his mind right and build confidence. Looks like a time share more than ever now.
Smackdown
So much for easing Ronnie Brown back slowly - he looked very good. If tonight is any indication this is a 50/50 split IMO to start the season.

Smackdown
I don't think they want to risk that. I would think something less the first couple of weeks. I originally thought the same Randall. But then why give Ronnie Brown 14 carries in the 1st half of a meaningless 4th and final pre-season game? That tells me he's ready and it probably signaled the same to the Dolphins front office. He looked like the same Ronnie Brown from last year before the injury. Cutting and carrying defenders. If they were going to ease him back slowly they don't give him 14 1st half cariies last night. Hopefully he feels OK today. The R & R Express is ready to roll Week 1 folks. Great for the Dolphins - not so great for fantasy purposes. Edited August 29, 2008 by Smackdown

Ellis and Young did start though. He may be ready in a meaningless game, but hasn't had much contact yet. I guess time will tell. It looks like Sparano will decide the split in practice this week. i_am_the_swammi
Guess I'm a little foggy on this "Ronnie Brown looked great" chatter. 12 rushes, 47 yards, with a long one of 15? Against the Saints back-ups? Tells me he broke one against some guy likely to be cut, and the other 11 carries, he managed just 32 yards. While he held-up physically, I don't think he set the world on fire with his performance. Didn't see the game, so am I missing something? They brought Ronnie in after Ricky went out. Ronnie played in 3 straight series before the end of the 1st half. They gave him 12 carries where it seemed like he gained 5 yards a carry bouncing it to the outside. He ran strong and cut on his injured knee which was nice to see. He also caught 2 balls for 10 yards. I can't tell you if the Saints had starters or backups in at that point but seeing Ronnie look like he did last year before the injury was nice to see. After his extended action last night I don't see the Dolphins "easing" him back. He looks ready to share in a RBBC with Ricky IMO.
