theeohiostate
According to ProFootballTalk.com, the Bengals are planning to release Rudi Johnson. The website says the Bengals shopped Rudi but couldn't get anything for him. He was set to make $3.45 million in 2008 and $3.6 million in '09, but will now become an unrestricted free agent. I took a flyer on him in a draft the other day.
tbimm
Of all the RB's available he would be the one I would like to see the Saints go after. I think he would be a fine compliment to Bush and the Saints passing game.
peepinmofo
I drafted him as an RB 3, so it doesnt matter much. Im sure theyll just resign him once Perry gets hurt (which WILL happen).

TDFFFreak
Just 2 years ago, this guy was easily a top 10 RB in the league. It continues to amaze me how fast some NFL RBs can fall due to injury and age. (See McAllister for another example.) tazinib1
Its official. Rudi Johnson-RB-Bengals Aug. 30 - 2:05 pm et Bengals released RB Rudi Johnson. The writing was on the wall for Rudi when he hurt the same hamstring in camp that washed out his '07 season and took way too long to recover. As a vested vet, Johnson may have to wait until after Week 1 to catch on elsewhere so his next team doesn't have to guarantee his salary. The Saints could give him a look. darin3
How long until he's a Texan? Rudi / Slaton RBBC wouldn't suck.
theeohiostate
Hope many huddlers had Perry targeted in their drafts , I've been pimping him for quite awhile now. This news made a few of my questionable RB cores a little brighter and it didn't cost much more then a late rounder.
Big Talker
The Saints could give him a look. Can't imagine why since they already have Stecker and Thomas around if Deuce can't handle the load. Plus Rudi is not a particularly good receiver, which also hurts his case given how much NO throws the ball.

This news made a few of my questionable RB cores a little brighter and it didn't cost much more then a late rounder. In a 16-team IDP dynasty league, I had a piss-poor RB corps a year or so ago. Funny how things change. Not saying this is a corps full of studs, but a backfield of Turner, Young, Rudi and Perry looks a lot better than it did at this point last year. Plus Rudi is not a particularly good receiver, which also hurts his case given how much NO throws the ball. Which makes him going to the Texans even more sensible. Sure, he's not a prototypical Kubiak/Gibbs, one-cut back... but he's a pure runner and would serve as the perfect complement to Slaton, who's got the receiving and one-cut skills. DuckSurprise
How long until he's a Texan? Rudi / Slaton RBBC wouldn't suck. Took him at 10.6 in my local a couple of nights ago, a full 2 rounds after Watson...hopefully this will work out
Seahawks21
How long until he's a Texan? Rudi / Slaton RBBC wouldn't suck. umm, well, yeah, it kinda would. Rudi is one shot at a return away from being Shaun Alexander exile status. Somebody will give him a shot this year and he will play horribly. By next year Rudi will be on the outside of the NFL looking in.

AtomicCEO
crap. I missed Perry by a dollar in a FA auction on Wednesday. Do I cut Rudi, or hang onto him in a 10 team league? What are the odds he'll be worth anything on another team?
Bronco Billy
Holy crap, guys. We've talked about this before at length. Exactly what kind of market do you think there is for a sub 3.0 ypc 29 yr old RB in the NFL when a 30 yr old RB who is one notch above being a journeyman outperformed him by a whopping 1.4 ypc last year with the exact same team? Especially as he, and it is likely that he will at his age, will try to demand starter's money out of a team - and he sure as hell won't play STs? There is a reason guys like SA, Travis Henry, and now Rudi are unemployed, and will likely continue to remain that way. Some of you may need to come to grips with the liklihood that his career is over. Edited August 30, 2008 by Bronco Billy
tazinib1
It is possible that the Bungles re-sign him for alot less. I doubt it, but possible.
Skilly
Thanks Huddle! I just picked up Perry off the waiver wire before the Rudi owner could nab him. Personally, I think the Bengals are a total mess this year and may not win 5 games, but perhaps he will have some trade value.

I thought the same thing about the Brown's last year when the cut Frye...I felt the team was a mess. Honestly though C Johnson torn labrum is not as big a deal as folks think. Housh should be fine for the season and if Perry can stay healthy he is an upgrade over Rudi...Im a Steelers fan
budlitebrad
I could see this just as easily turn into a RBBC with Perry, Watson and Dorsey.
ABearWithFurniture
How long until he's a Texan? Rudi / Slaton RBBC wouldn't suck. Green, Brown, and Johnson all riding the pine on the same team with various ailments...I'd almost pay to see that At least a snapshot...
