The summer is drawing to a close and the faintest signs of autumnal color may already be glimpsed on verdant leaves. The first frost of the season is not far away, though the waters of the big lakes are yet placid. The sounds of children splashing playfully along the shorelines is being replaced by the sounds of hunters in the woods. The Canadian geese have arrived, if only for a short while as they follow the sun southward. And for a few fleeting moments the hopes of Detroit Lions fans have again arisen with the advent of September. For surely they think, this season will be different, the inevitable will surely be avoided. Alas, these dreams are destined to wither and crumble as certainly as the leaves of summer will fall to carpet the forest floor. All that remains is the question which has haunted the minds of generations long past... When? ------- So, here again is the contest: In which week will the Detroit Lions first lose by more than 20 points? --Also include your answer to the tie-breaker: How many points will Detroit score in the game in which they first lose by more than 20 points? --Further note that by tradition, if no team defeats the Lions by more than 20 points then no one will win the contest. (In year's past, Spain would have automatically won the award, but, alas, he is no longer with us.) --There is only one postcard, so the first person to guess the correct week/score combination will win the award. (NOTE: I am busy and unlike in past years, I will not go back and check to see if people have selected duplicate entries, so make sure you are NOT picking something that has already been selected. --If you make a mistake, do NOT edit your entry, instead post a new entry (and then please go back and delete the bad entry). --The contest deadline is kickoff time of the Lions first game (September 7th at 1:00 pm EDT) Please note that I did not send the postcard to Broncos last year. Since I was in Germany, I had planned to send a replacement postcard of a 33-foot tall statue of a prostitute that had been erected in the city where I was living, but I decided that it would not be in my best interests to send such a postcard to a minor. I'll send Broncos something sometime, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. So, the postcard is still with Tbimm down in New Orleans, hence, thanks to Gustav, it may be somewhat soggy when it gets sent to this year's winner.
