The absolute worst  call I've ever seen at the end of a game. Locker directs his team down the field during the last 3 minutes of the game and make's an incredible run for a touchdown throws the ball UP and receives congratulations from his teammates. The referee's throw a flag for excessive celebration? Locker did not spike the ball, he throws the ball behind his head, up in the air and they call him for "spiking" the ball? WTH? In the replay, as they were celebrating, the ball comes down and lands on one of the Husky players? How does that happen when you "spike" the ball into the turf? I haven't heard the explanation from the referee's but a "spike" is the only thing they could call. None of the Husky's, especially Locker, did anything that could have been termed "excessive" or taunting.

And yes, the Huskies still should have made the 35 yard extra point that got blocked but for the referee's to make that call, at that point in the game is incredible. I'm not sure if they were Pac-10 referee's or not but they need to be reprimanded for that call. These kids, on both sides, played their hearts out and for the game to be decided like that is unbelievable. I'm not sure if Ty would have went for the win by going for two, but we'll never know.

Give BYU some credit they have a great offensive team with a lot of weapons and they have a classy coach in Bronco Mendenhall. They moved the ball all day on us. I'm not saying that the Husky's would have won but they certainly got their opportunity taken away by a horrible call. We needed this win. Ty needed this win! I don't think I've ever been so mad at a referee's call before. Alright, done venting. I'm gonna go kick the dog :D

Here's the rules on excessive celebration ....

College football, governed by the NCAA also penalizes excessive celebrations with a 15 yard penalty. NCAA Football Rule 9-2, Article 1(a)(1)(d) prohibits "Any delayed, excessive, prolonged or choreographed act by which a player (or players) attempts to focus attention upon himself (or themselves)"; in addition, Rule 9-2, Article 1(a)(2) asserts that "After a score or any other play, the player in possession immediately must return the ball to an official or leave it near the dead-ball spot."[2] Additionally, if a player's actions is considered "unsportsmanlike conduct" the result is dead-ball foul; a "flagrant unsportsmanlike conduct" foul requires player ejection. If a player’s nonfootball-related act (e.g. taunting or cursing) causes an opponent to physically retaliate, it is considered fighting and both players are ejected.[3]

I guess, technically, by Rule 9-2 Locker did break the rule because he did not immediately hand the ball to an official or leave it near the dead-ball spot.

I have always hated this rule and now I really hate it. These kids are young, enthusiastic, playing a physical game with their adrenaline flowing and to ask them to shut those emotions down when they score a TD at such a critical part of the game in my opinion is ridiculous. I totally agree that there should be a penalty if there is verbal taunting or if a player spikes the ball in the area of an opposing player which in my mind is "taunting" but what Locker did today was not even close to any of this. OK, now I'm done.

Was just about to post this. You a big BYU fan there ref? I couldn't care less about either team, but what a joke. It's not like he taunted someone or did some gay NFL-type "celebration" etc.

Too bad goofball ref calls like this aren't reviewable. I can see it now:

"On further review, the ref's call SUCKED and is retracted with our apologies......"
