Commentary for the DEN/OAK game

I actually like Mike Greenburg & Mike Golic and I think that, on their own, they'd do a pretty good job. But Ditka I cannot stand. He lends nothing to the commentary... especially tonight. Every time, Greenburg would ask him a question—a la "what would you do here, coach"—Ditka would avoid the question entirely or ramble on about something completely unrelated.

Like get excited cause Zach Miller caught a pass. I thought he was gonna jump out of the booth toward the end of the game when Miller caught his 3rd pass. I didn't quite understand his excitement.

I like Golic- I think he does a nice job. The other bozos are awful

Ditka can't even string together a coherent sentence, and he shortens entire words. One of the best at interrupting himself.

Greeny stinks, can't stand his nasaly voice on ESPN radio and he is an awful play by play man - he makes Tirico sound like Vin Scully

The whole thing sucked from Oakland to announcers.

I actually thought they were fine for the most part... but at times there were some strange timing or rhythm issues when they were talking to each other. That surprised me since Mike & Mike have been working together for so long.

They sucked. Calling Ditka "coach" every 30 seconds was weak. Who is he coaching these days?

Greenberg is the big problem. He tries to fit play-by-play and analysis together, and he never gives the others space. After about ten minutes I was screaming for him to shut his d*mn yap. The fade TD to Royal at the beginning was like:

Greenie: "blahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahbl--"

(ball is snapped)

Greenie: "--ahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahbl--"

(ball is thrown)

Greenie: "--ahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahbl--"

(ball is caught, TD)

Greenie: "ahblahblahthethrowtoRoyAL IS COMPLETE TOUCHOWN ANdjustlikethattheBroncosblahblahblahblahblahblahblah . . . "

Like, the play on the field (a frigging TD!) barely threw Greenie off his stride of monotone yappy BS. It really hurts Greenie/Golic that they have a longstanding dry, verbose straight man/loud, boisterous funny man relationship, because Greenie's pipes aren't cut out for play-by-play at all. He's got the yappy, wry, annoying smartaleck voice you'd associate with a Miller or Kornheiser 'funny man', but he's doing the play-by-play. I could listen to Mike Tirico read the phone book all day and be mildly soothed, but Greenie doing play-by-play is lik nails on a chalkboard. Meanwhile, Golic has no time to be funny, and his analysis is mostly worthless. Ditka speaks so rarely and is such a nonsequitur factory I don't really mark the team down for his antics.

Peace
