Yesterday the Saints released Hollis Thomas reaching an injury settlement with him one day after placing him on IR. They really didn't want to do this but their hand was forced by a rash on injuries to hit the Saints. Thomas will be ready to play in 4-5 weeks and they need the D-Line help. They told him to stay in shape and rehab the arm and they will probably resign him in the near future, instead of losing him all year to IR.

hmmmm, that will be interesting because I thought that once a guy was put on IR he couldnt play for THAT team anymore that year...now if he was then cut (or given an injury settlement, see Demps) then another team could sign him to their active roster...I wasnt aware that if a team put a guy on IR then cut him(injury settlement) they could bring them back at a later point to the active roster.

Big John any chance you can link to the actual NFL Rule?

Just re read the article they had a 5 day window to offer him an injury settlement before the IR move became permanent. So really he was not officially put on IR and by accepting the injury settlement he is a FA and can sign with ant team.
