Cassel.

I think regardless of what the Pats say publicly, Cassel is like any other inexperienced QB that has sat on the bench behind the starter for a couple of years. He may know the entire playbook, but I don't think they (Belichick esp.) trust him with everything yet. So that means you will see more running and short quick passes from the Pat's O, with the ball spread around a lot. From a fantasy perspective you probably need to view the Pats like they were prior to the Moss/Welker era, not very decent fantasy picks. As the season progresses, and IF he shows he can deliver, they may open it up. Until then look for a lot of FG's and boring offense. Just my SWAG....

think he looked a lot like Brady, circa 2001

managed the game, made a few real nice plays, didn't throw any picks, got a W for the team.

I may be wrong, but I think I can pretty much guarantee that if Brady crica 2001 had a weapon like Moss, he would have found a way to put the ball in his hands and let Moss make plays for him.

Maybe not...

I don't think in Brady's first start in '01 it would have mattered what weapons they had. BB was not going to put him in high risk situations.

Oh, and Cassel hit Moss with a long pass either late in the third, or early fourth, and it bounced off his chest cause he didn't go up and get it with his hands. Underthrown ball, but he was so wide open, would have been big gainer. Dropped.

I hear this all the time about Cassel.

I wonder where people get the idea that they have any idea what Cassel is capable of in real game situations. Look back at the times when Cassel has played. It's been either in preseason games running a completely blase offense OR at the tail and of a blowout. Either way he's typically been throwing to players that are not NFL starter caliber and not had top TE and RB skill players with him on the field.

This isn't a prediction that he will set the world on fire, but more of a cautious optimism that he can play well when he has the full complement of players at his disposal and is running the full Patriots offense. JMO, but this coaching staff would not have kept the guy around for this long if he didn;t know what he was doing. I think that's compounded by the situation, which the organization clearly knew about long before any of us did.
