Cardinals | Boldin says he is doing OK

Tue, 30 Sep 2008 16:19:04 -0700

Darren Urban, of AZCardinals.com, reports Arizona Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin (head) made an appearance at the team's facility Tuesday, Sept. 30, and said he was doing OK. He appeared to have a slightly swollen jaw.

I don't know how long he'll be out, but he's already doing better than I ever thought possible. When I saw the hit I seriously thought he had severe spinal cord damage!!

From Rotoworld:

Anquan Boldin underwent surgery to repair his sinus fracture and will miss this week's game. The Cardinals are hopeful he can play next Sunday.

A hockey player reportedly returned from the same surgery in 10 days, so it sounds like Boldin has a good chance to play against Dallas in Week 6. Boldin's history of bad breaks on injuries continue, but he's still slated for a huge season. Steve Breaston will start against Buffalo and makes for a fine WR3 play.

Looks like he's likely out this week.

Doesn't look like hes doing THAT good, per the Huddle Priority news:

AZCardinals.com reports Arizona Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin (head) had a surgical procedure Thursday, Oct. 2, to repair the fracture in his skull. He will not play in the team's Week 5 game. He may be able to play in the team's Week 6 game.

The Huddle Take: No surprise here, but it is pretty striking to read "repair the fracture in his skull." As tough as Boldin is, don't assume he's going to be playing in Week 6, either. For this week, Steve Breaston and Jerheme Urban should get several balls thrown their way opposite Larry Fitzgerald. And since the Bills defense will key on Fitzgerald, there's a good chance his numbers will suffer

That is the type of hit that can mentally end a career. It will be interesting to see if he ever really comes back as the player he was.

I think back to the goal line hit hit Ronnie Lott put on Okoyea (sp?) when he was with the Jets (Lott hit him so hard he gave himself a concussion). The "Nigerian Nightmare" admitted that he was never the same player again after that hit.

THE NEWS

Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin had surgery on Thursday to repair a facial fracture, according to the East Valley Tribune.

Our View

Boldin will definitely be out on Sunday, and it remains a distinct possibility that he will be out the following week as well.

NFL Network speculating he'll miss this week and Week 6, then come back after the Card's Week 7 bye.

Sounds logical and safe.

This is the prudent course. However, I did read somwhere that tthere was a hockey player that had the same surgery and was playing 10 days later. Don't necessarily rule out Boldin playing until the team says he's out next week.
