Brian Westbrook

i am always so amazed at the number of weekly threads year in and year out about whether or not Westy is playing.

Not because people shouldn't post or anything, but because it is, and always is a mystery. Then, after days and days of speculation and worry, usually resulting in him being benched on tons of FF teams, he would go off for 180 total yards and 2 TDs. Or just not even show up in a uniform.

I dont think it's because Reid plays the injury report like Belichik or anything..i think even he doesn't know until game day. Westy has proven he'll play injured, and play well without practicing. Even more than Plaxico...

I guess the Westbrook situation is destined to remain an enigma. An anomaly so to speak.

Although cbssportsline is not known for their fantasy acumen, they may be alright when just reporting information. I'm not sure, but I did find this tidbit interesting on cbssportsline:

The Washington Post reports that the brother of Brian Westbrook doesn't expect the Eagles RB to play in Week 5 vs. Washington. "I don't think he'll play," Redskins DB Byron Westbrook said. "The ankle injury is more serious than what the Eagles put out. You know how Andy Reid is about injuries."

(Updated 10/01/2008).

"whatever, man."

"anyway, what do you want?"

Any locals have any updates on this? I read the same piece about his bro saying that Westy is still hurting, but that same article said that at the time of the quote, Byron hadn't talking with him since Sunday. Plus, even though it's his bro, would he really be that open with him when they're playing the Skins this week?

This is the first time I've ever had Westy, and I knew it was gonna be like this!!!

Per RotoWorld:

"Eagles coach Andy Reid said after Thursday's practice that Brian Westbrook (ankle) "looked real good out there."

Westbrook went through a limited workout. "We're throwing him in there a little bit more each day," Reid said. "We'll give him a little bit more tomorrow. We're just being smart with it and adding something every day."

With all the conflicting reports (Byron, Reid) it's just so damn hard to tell. I think the consensus is that he won't play but who knows.

I read somewhere on Rotoworld that he did par-take in practice today, but was very limited and he would be listed as quesiontable or doubtful, but cbssportline agreed more with the report you show above and said he looked good out there and ran through all drills with the 1st team. Thse are pretty conflicting reports. Is Rotoworld or cbs more reliable?

I like that he participated in the walk through, that's always a good sign. The bottom line is we wont know until he steps on the field for pregame warm-ups. That's the reality of owning westbrook, however at least it's a 1 o'clock game so all this hand wringing is pointless.

Westbrook will play and will put up massive numbers this week... I'm playing against him in my local and this is usually what happens... Barely miss out on the injury game and get destroyed in his welcome back game.

I disagree, I have Buckhalter and will not be able to change my lineup for a game time decision. I plan on sitting him to be safe which means Westy will sit and CBuck will have 100 yds and 2 TDs.

This sounds like total gamesmanship by coach Reid. I mean, if Westy was not going to play, wouldn't he want his opponent to think he will play and vice versa? Based on the above quote by Reid, my money is that Westy does NOT play, but of course that is pure speculation on my part.

Eagles' Westbrook has full practice

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Philadelphia Eagles star running back Brian Westbrook had full participation in practice on Friday as he attempts to overcome a right ankle injury in time for Sunday's home game against Washington.

Westbrook, who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game, sat out last week's 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears because of the injury.

"He was able to get through everything and it looked like he did it well," said head coach Andy Reid. "We'll see how he feels later today and tomorrow."

The injury occurred in a contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3. Because of the injury, Correll Buckhalter started the game against the Bears in place of Westbrook and had 66 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown.

Reid also stated that wide receiver Kevin Curtis, who has yet to play this season after offseason surgery for a sports hernia, might play in a limited role on Sunday. Curtis, as he has done the past two weeks, worked with the scout team in practice.

Pro Bowl right guard Shawn Andrews, who has missed the past two games with a back problem, was the only player to miss Friday's practice. He remains day to day after meeting with a specialist earlier this week.
