Kid Cid Posted October 7, 2008 Share Posted October 7, 2008 So in honor of my losing my job and Ms Cid's B-day yesterday, we decided to break into our port collection and try one of our 94's. Calem is not one of the big names in the port world but oh my, my was this stuff ever tasty. Not inky black but just a hint of brown to the color. Pleasant. My guess is that if you fortify anything with brandy then it'll taste pretty good. I opened a 94 Mount Pleasant Vintage Port a few weeks ago and it was showing nicely with similar flavor profiles. Hell, look at Rbt Parker. Look at how many dessert wines get crazy high scores. I bet he'd give Coca Cola an 89. I mean, what's not to like? I used to be a judge in the Santa Cruz Mountains Wine Competition and one thing used to always bug me. Every freaking year the Bonny Doon Muscat ended up in the final flight. Here we were scrutinizing tons of Chards, Pinots, Cabs, etc against each other, dinging them for any flaws. Then, along comes this sweet, tasty, pretty muscat. I mean, who's not going to like that? So, every freaking year, it gets high marks and ends up in the Best of Show Flight. I mean, sure it was good but it just didn't seem, for lack of a better word, fair.
