Ed Hochuli

The NFL needs to put Ed "guns" Hochuli and his crew on double secret probation. After last night:

1. Non-call on R. Bush facemask which I think contributed to the fumble.

2. His explanation of the why AP fumble was not a fumble I think it went "the ball was coming out, but he still had his hand on it"

3. The false start penalty in the 3rd qtr. I was in the dome, but I think he said "the defence player was lined up in the neutral zone, but the

offensive player on the other side something something something (could not hear). We were all booing...

4. Another non-call on the helmet to helmet hit on B. Miller in the 4th qtr. This after the NFL is suppost to be cracking down on those type of blows.

Its seems every week this crew is part of some sort of controversy over questionable calls. So again, Double Secret Probation.

In other words, get rid of that dam crew.

I believe he said the defensive player jumped across into the neutral zone but that does not excuse the offensive player from then making a false start.

See, I thought that the NFL specifically made a point over the last few years of saying that is an excuse for offensive players to jump. That made no sense to me at all.

Regarding the fumble, replay on TV showed it wasn't.

I disagree and so did all the guys in the booth.

There's something you need to come to grips with: It's not Hoculi's fault that the Saints suck.

Refs miss calls. Losers use them as excuses for losing. Winners find a way to overcome, knowing they'll get their share of mistaken calls also.

Your just saying this because your team was on the good side of his calls this season, of course you like him. Also, nowhere in this post did I say he cause the saints to lose...they lost because they are just an average football team.

Come on...that was a play that could have been called either way. I'm sure if it was ruled a fulmble during the game play it would have stayed a fumble. That was WAY too close to comment on.

I didn't have a dog in the fight, so I'm not making excuses. However, simply as a fan of the game, it looked like the refs were seriously jocking the Saints.

Obviously the Saints did plenty on their own to cause their demise but I was amazed at how bad the calls seemed to be all night.

Fair enough, but considering the fact that they seemed to be getting squeezed, I can easily see why a fan would point to this as yet another example.

I just want to make sure that I'm not mistaking your position:

Are you seriously implying that the refs intentionally screwed the Saints? If so, are you thinking of some kind of NBA/Tim Donaghy thing, or are you thinking along WWF lines?

Nope. No conspiracy here. I'm just saying that, for whatever reason, the Saints were constantly on the wrong end of every missed or marginal call and it detracted from the enjoyment of the game.

No agenda implied on the part of the officials. Just an observation.

Good, and fair enough.

I think this falls under the "poopy happens" category.

Really? More Hochuli hate? Get over it, people - he made one terrible call in the DEN/SD game and openly admitted it. Now everyone is putting every snap of every game he works under a microscope - it's idiocy. The guy is a good ref but, shockingly, even good refs screw up every now and again or *gasp* even miss calls (please note that refs are not omniscient and simply can't be expected to see everything). There are at least 3 or 4 poopyey calls in every game that's played - can we please move on here?

Kaesviharn got away with a pretty f'n blatant, unnecessary helmet-to-back of-helmet hit on AP, who was all but already tackled/down on that fumble play.

Besides, the helmet to helmet deal, at least when it doesn't involve QBs seems to typically get enforced as a fine rather than an on the field penalty. This may still happen. I don't think the hit on B Miller warranted being mentioned here.

I'm not questioning the fumble, it probably could have gone either way, I could not tell from my seat. I just questioning his explanation - it did not make any sense.

I do agree here -- he was about 3/4 of the way though the explanation but then just said, "Aw, screw it, I'm Ed Hoculi, I have giant guns, I'm outta here" and ran off...was pretty funny/weird, actually.

There is no logical or reasonable human being that actually say that was not a fumble after watching the replay. Ed's explanation was ridiculous at best and had the ESPN guys speechless!

+1

Stated perfectly.
