Will Clark Hunt fire Peterson?

Peterson's last stand

One running belief within the organization is that Hunt kept Peterson on after last season because he wanted to ensure Edwards will be judged on his 2009 season rather than this year.

So KC fans, what do you think? I bet almost anything the Hunt will keep Peterson on until the end of 2009. Any other GM would have Hermaroid out on the next bus.

Well that's an old article. From what I gather from Clark's thoughts, he has stated that in order for Carl or Herm to retain their positions he wants to see improvment throughout the year and he wants to see them close to making the playoffs or making a push come the end of the year. I cannot forsee them being over 4 wins and that is nowhere near the playoffs. I think Clark has got to fire Carl come seasons end, or his words mean nothing. I find it hard to believe that Clark would be able to hire a GM and protect Herm, so in my opinion if Carl goes, so does Herm. I think Herm lost the team during the loss last week. Personally I'd like to see them both gone, the sonner the better.

"The 2008 season is going to be a very important year for our football team, I expect us to at least compete for a playoff spot."

"I'm not saying this football team's got to win 10 or 11 games next year. But I expect us to be competitive for a playoff spot. Certainly, if we're 4-12 again that would be a failure, or anywhere close to 4-12. It's not unrealistic for us to have a team that's in the mix fighting for a playoff spot late in the year next year."

"We've got to rebound from the year we just had. I'm going to look for two or three different things," he said.

"First of all, the win-loss record. I understand that we're in a rebuilding phase and it's difficult to go from 4-12 to 12-4. But we should at least be able to compete for a playoff spot.

"I also expect that we will be greatly improved on the offensive side of the ball.

"Third, as the season goes along I'd like to see us playing better than we did at the beginning of the season. We're going to have a young football team, a young quarterback and a new coordinator. You would expect over the course of the year they'd get better. You can contrast that to 2007 where we probably played worse as the season went along. I expect to see the opposite next year."

Is clark a man of his word? We shall find out.

From the KC Star message Boards:

"It doesn't matter who the QB is. This team will never be a winner with Herm. Everyone needs to remember that Herm has NEVER been an Offensive or Defensive Coordinator in the NFL! Here is his NFL record before the Jets:

1990-1991 KC scout

1992-1995 Tampa assistant head coach and defensive backs coach

1996-2000 KC defensive backs coach

It should be no surprise that Herm has a losing record (55W 68L) in 7+ years. He was never qualified to be a head coach to begin with! Herm struggles in virtually all coaching aspects because he has never been an offensive or defensive coordinator. This explains his failures in game prep, play calling, halftime adjustments, clock management, etc. Not to mention assistant coach selection, management and development; player evaluation, development, motivation, discipline, etc. He has never been responsible for an offense or a defense so no wonder he does not know anything about coaching either one!

Herm inherited playoff teams from both the Jets and Chiefs and did not improve either one! Parcells Jets in 2000 were ranked 13 in scoring defense and 17 in scoring offense. Herm's 2005 Jets were ranked 23 in scoring defense and 29 in scoring offense! Vermeil's 2005 Chiefs were ranked 16 in scoring defense and 6 in scoring offense. Herm's 2007 Chiefs were ranked 14 in scoring defense and 31 in scoring offense! And don't tell me it is because the Chiefs got too old. The oldest team in the NFL in 2007 was the 16-0 Patriots!

When Herm was with Tampa, he liked to tell everyone how he had seven coordinator job offers. The only reason for not taking those jobs was he knew he could downplay his total lack of coordinator experience by smoozing some owner into being a head coach by associating himself with proven winners like Dungy and Schottenheimer. Whenever Herm gets any criticism, you can always count on him to trot out his "experience" with Marty and Tony and make it seem like he was their right hand man.

Herm is a perfect example of a passive-aggressive personality caused by a severe inferiority complex. That is why he thinks he has to prove he is smarter than everyone else about football, and why he will ALWAYS hire WEAK assistant coaches that can never be a threat to him. Chan Gailey and Gunther Cunningham are certainly not a threat because they fit Herm's "philosophy" perfectly. So if Herm is so great tell me what assistant coaches he has mentored over the years that have gone on to be successful NFL head coaches? Success breeds success, and failure feeds on itself.

Herm is a fraud. He will NEVER be a successful head coach anywhere in the NFL because he does not have any meaningful experience or expertise. He is the poster boy for the Peter Principle. At best, he is nothing more than a talent scout. The Chiefs are doomed with Herm at the helm. Fire Herm NOW!"

I really couldn't have said it better myself. Wake up Clark!

Sorry my Panthers beat your Chiefs so bad on Sunday. It was a fun game as a Panther fan, but I kept asking myself how in the world does Herm Edwards have a job. How did KC get through the entire offseason without draft or signing a FA QB to complete with Huard and Thigpen. You guys have a right to be upset as the team that I saw on Sunday will be lucky to beat the 4 wins from last season.

Stack the box with 8 and stop LJ and make the offense one dimensional with the passing game. Gonzo and Bowe both have talent on the receiving side, but until you find someone capable of getting the ball to them, each opponent will take this approach in facing the Chiefs.

Kennison still lives in Kansas City and has put down some roots here. He is invested in some local businesses, and every time they have him on the radio he sounds like a pretty good guy.

That's good.... I always liked him.

Trying to determine who is in and who is inactive for the Chiefs just isn't as interesting anymore with him gone.

Even though the Chiefs are young and clearly rebuilding, they still have to show some potential or improvement. There is plenty of blame to go around from the coaches to the GM. IMO, Peterson and the coaching staff should be shown the door by season's end if they don't win at least six games.

Priority no. 1 should be finding a franchise QB which isn't easy. Even if they draft a QB of the future with a high draft pick, he will still probably take 1-2 years to develop. The Chiefs however, could turn things around quickly with a proven signal caller. Kansas City could actually be a decent place for a good coach to come into and turn things around in 2-3 years. Somebody is going to inherit a young team with potential and extra draft picks.

Trade for Brady Quinn?

Hire Bill Cowher? Or, maybe bring Marty back?
