Penn State at Wisconsin

I'm sure I was this fired up before games in '05, but, I don't remember feeling this excited before a PSU game. I think Penn State has more talent, but, a night game in Madison is going to be a tough task. They need to get out of the gates quickly and take the crowd out of the game.

 WE ARE..................PENN STATE !!!!

selfishly, and for no other reason, I'm pulling for Wisconsin. I think Penn St will win.

I think they will too...............

I wonder if the Wisconsin students will do their famous "Jump Around" after the 3rd quarter ?

When was the last time Wisconsin was down by 30+ after 3 quarters at home ????

For Real in the Big 10, sure. But for real outside the conference. Im not so sure. Looks to me like another Big 10 team to the slaughter if PSU runs the table, and my worst nightmare. Losing to Texas today wasnt bad enough, but now knowing another Big 10 team could be in the NC game. College football needs a playoff. And this year would be a nice time to start one. Its sucks that you can be in the stongest conference in the country, lose to a top 5 team, and have virutally no shot at a title, because some weak ass conference has the tallest miget, that plays no one, then backs into a NC game, only to get pummeled again for all the marbles.

Yes, basing this year's Penn State season on the past two Ohio State national championship games is extremely fair. Speaking of which, how did Oklahoma fair in their last National Championship game ???? IF Penn State wins out (that is a big if), and they get beat or even worse killed, you can :D all you want:, but, until then, you have no reason or proof to state that anyone is better than PSU. They aren't just beating teams, they are leaving tire marks on their back, and that includes a team that beat big, bad USC.

Feel free to retort, but, expectations weren't that high going into this season for PSU, and I am LOVING THE HELL OUT OF THIS...........nothing you or anyone else can say will change that. :D

By the way Sarge, I agree with you on one thing, this system sucks. I don't think Penn State should be judged on teams performances last year, but, at the same time, who knows who the true #1 team is. You'll be pissed if Oklahoma wins out and doesn't get in the National Championship game. Well, if PSU goes undefeated, but, doesn't get into the NC game, is that fair ? Penn State already has 4 undefeated season in their history, where they were told they weren't the best team in the country, and didn't get a chance to prove otherwise on the field. I've said this over and over again for years, we are all getting ripped off BIG TIME, and someday, years from now, there will be a playoff, and everyone will realize what they missed out on for years. With the incredible drama and unpredictability that is college football needs the perfect ending, and that ending is an 8 team playoff. It is a damn shame that we don't get it.

Serious props to the Wisconsin crowd. They panned the stadium, and it is still full. Nice to see them sticking by their team during a down performance.

Yep. And when WIS showed even a glimmer of life (not often) they were right there cheering. A lot of stadiums, including those of "great" teams, would have quickly exited and/or booed the hell out of their team in this kind of game. Class act fans - I thought they were about extinct -

Penn St. has played better then any team in the country up to this point. They have had better wins @ Wisconsin, and over Illinois and Oregon St. are better then any other in the country to this point. This doesn't mean I think they are the best team, that still goes to USC , imo.

If Penn St wins out, they would be the most deserving team , aside of Ok St winning out. The Big Game against the Buckeyes may not be that big if we stumble against Mich St next week, who are playing very well look better then the Bucks at this point.

Just to play devil's advocate, by what standards is the Big 12 the strongest conference in the country? Because they score the most points? As I have said before, nobody in that conference has shown anybody that they can play defense.... Scoring a lot will only get you so far. You have to be able to play D to be a NC contender. Big 12 fans should know that more than anyone... they taught Florida that exact lesson some 12 or 13 years ago.

This isn't a personal attack against you, Sarge, as I have been pretty much defending OU all day, since I think they WERE the better team for three quarters today. I'm just tired of hearing people make blanket statements that simply aren't true, with NOTHING but their own personal opinion/bias to back it up.

First, all we heard was that OSU sucks (after they lost). Then, it was USC sucks. Then, Georgia sucks. Now, people are saying OU sucks. Tonight/tomorrow, it will be LSU that sucks. All season, it's been said that the Big 10 sucks. None of those things are even remotely close to being true. Sure, everyone agrees that we need a playoff. But, until we get one, the next best way to determine national rankings is to base them on RESULTS. You get beat, you lose your chance. PERIOD. If everyone loses, fine. A number of teams get a second chance. But, as far as major conferences are concerned, there is absolutely no reason why a one-loss team should EVER get into the NC game before a team that ran the table. The Big 10 may be "down"... I'm not arguing that. I could care less about anybody in the Big 10 other than Minnesota. But, results should be the only thing that matters. Not talent. Not pre-season hype. Not last year's results.

Imagine if the NCAA basketball tournament re-seeded after the Sweet 16, no matter what the results were in the first two rounds. In other words, if you lose, you still might advance, depending on popularity, last year's results, or just general public perception of how good you are. A #15 seed beats a #2, but the #2 seed gets voted in to the Sweet 16 based on their "strength of schedule." That's basically what we're talking about... it's ludicrous. How many times have we seen a #2 seed lose in the first or second round of the NCAA hoops tournament? Do the fans of those teams argue that they should have been given a shot at the national championship because they were one of the best teams in the country? NO, because they lost. It's that simple. Even though there's no playoff tournament in football, the same principle applies. You lose, you're done. If everyone loses, it opens up a whole new can of worms. If not, I'm sorry... nobody in their right mind (unless they have a strong personal bias) can make a valid argument that a one-loss team deserves a chance more than a team who didn't lose at all.

Don't get me wrong... I want a playoff as bad as anyone. I also think, based on watching the Big 10 for the past 20+ years, that the chances of PSU running the table are fairly slim. So, we may not even have to worry about it. I just don't think the absence of playoff, which makes end-of-season results much less clear, gives teams who lost their chance at a title on the field the right to get that chance back.

I dont think there is a team in the Big 10, that can score with the top 5 teams from the Big 12.

Penn St cant contain OU, Texas, Missouri, Tech or Okie St defensively. And they certainly cant score with any of these teams.

That is where my statement comes from. And to be fair, the most complete team I have seen play thus far this year was FLA tonight. They completely trashed LSU, and I thought LSU was a good team. FLA stumped its toe already, as now has OU. But those 2 teams IMO are the top 2 in the country. But today, TEXAS, OUR TEXAS, OH HAIL THE MIGHTY STATE, TEXAS OUR TEXAS, SO WONDERFUL AND GREAT... beat OU, and that is really all that matters. I dont see Texas losing twice, so now I have to root for them to go undefeated, hoping every other team loses and OUs only loss is to Texas, giving OU a chance to play for the NC game. I can see Texas losing once, but they will still be ahead of OU, as probably they should based on todays win. Then I see Penn St running the table. I see FLA winning out, as do I see SC winning out from here. So Texas, OU, FLA, SC all have one loss. And Penn St has 0. Penn St gets in, but they would get killed by any of those 4. And Texas tied with OU, OU wont jump them IMO. And FLA is moving up, as will SC after today, and OU will move down. So the poll coming out will be huge to see how far OU falls. Can they stay ahead of FLA or/and SC. Too close to call.

After watching Penn State tonight I believe they beat ANY team in the Big 12. Championships are won with defense. The Big 12 has some great offenses but none of them play great defense. No way Oklahoma could stop Penn State, not with that defense. The top 3 teams in the country right now should be ......

Alabama, Penn State, Texas.

I couldnt disagree more. To me FLA, OU and SC are the top 3. But all of these teams have stumped their toe. I guess we will see how it shakes out.

And Penn St plays good defense against which offense. Im not so sure, tehy dont get half a hundred on them from 5 teams from the Big 12. And no way their offense can keep up. There isnt a defense in the Big 10 that has the athletes Texas or OU has, so I couldnt disagree more that Penn St is for real, or is a top 5 team. But when other teams like OU lose to Texas, and Penn St beat up on tomato cans in the Big 10, I can see how you think Penn St is better than OU. But that line would be OU -14 and OU covers by halftime and entends that lead in the 2nd half.

Im so pissed OU laid the egg in the 4th today. Texas had alot to do with that obviously, but this game shouldnt have been that close at halftime.

Edit to Add: The team that score the most points wins the game. So yes I think the Big 12 is superior because their teams have the best offenses in the country and even some stellar D's will get scored on with the offense play in this conference.

Penn State's offense hasn't been stopped by anyone. The defenses in the Big 12 are awful, and Penn State would score at will. The difference is that Penn State actually has a decent defense. I'd put Penn State up against anyone in the Big 12. However, since you said they would get smoked, I guess that makes it a fact. :D

The funny thing is, I think you actually believe the garbage you spout. I've never seen someone throw out their opinion as fact as much as you only to have it blow up in his face. I'll give you credit though, you never stop......

Get real Penn St doesnt have a defense. OSU supposedly had a defense the past 2 years, and we saw what happened when they played outside of conference aganst one of the big boys Its easy to look good on defense when the best teams in this conference are a joke on offense. Penn State would probably have 2 loses already in the Big 12. Decent defense my ass, Penn St probably doesnt have a single player that would start for either team that played in Dallas today. Get that sh*t outta here, they have a defense and would score at will. They lose by 2 TDS easily to either team. I just hope this fraud team loses, so we dont have to suffer through another Big 10 NC embarassment this yr. :D
