Colts week: Friday update - Bigby doubtful

By Greg A. Bedard

Friday, Oct 17 2008, 12:52 PM

Green Bay - When the injury report comes out later today, S Atari Bigby will be listed as doubtful, and both C Scott Wells and DT Ryan Pickett are questionable for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Bigby (hamstring) was thought to be on the way back but didn't make it through Thursday's practice fully. He did not participate today. Bigby will likely be held out so he can utilize the bye week for extra rest. Same goes for the other doubtful players: DE Jason Hunter (hamstring), WR James Jones (knee) and DE Michael Montgomery (knee).

"(Bigby) didn't finish practice yesterday. He worked through most of it. I talked to him afterwards, thought he had a chance today. But in his evaluation this morning, we ended up holding him, so it looks like he won't be back until after the bye week," coach Mike McCarthy said.

Both Wells (chest) and Pickett (tricep) should be able to go if the Packers can get them equipped in a way that will prevent further injury. They were limited in practice today.

Other than CB Al Harris (spleen), who is out for this game, all other injured players are probable.

McCarthy said no decision has been made yet as to whether DT Justin Harrell will be activated. The Packers will have to make a roster move (release or injured reserve) if Harrell is activated.

Harrell Says He's Ready, Decision Saturday

The Green Bay Packers won't announce until Saturday whether they're activating defensive tackle Justin Harrell from the physically-unable-to-perform list Friday, but Harrell says he’s ready to play again and very well could be needed.

Harrell has had two surgeries on his lower back since March and just returned to the practice field this week, the first week he’s eligible to come off PUP. He practiced all three days and said he has no pain in his lower back – the surgeries were to correct a bulging disc.

The biggest issue is whether coach Mike McCarthy thinks Harrell is ready to play in an NFL game after missing the entire offseason, all of training camp and the first six weeks of the regular season. The Packers only have three defensive tackles likely to play this week – Ryan Pickett, Johnny Jolly and Colin Cole – so they’re anxious to get Harrell on the field as soon as possible.

Harrell said he hasn’t lobbied McCarthy to play.

“My lobbying is going out there on the field and showing them I can do it,” Harrell said.

I have a strong feeling that Harrell will come back strong after the bye week and shore up our run defense down the stretch.

I sure hope so. Many of us have been waiting a long time to see what he can do. He's very athletic for a tackle.

Was too sick to go to the bar today. Did the Colts get man-handled up front again?

Manning was pressured, but I think more than anything it was Manning just not in sync with his receivers. The packers DB's were roughing up the Colts WR's at the line and threw everything off for them. Manning also had massive INT's which didn't help there cause. Dominic Rhodes played very well today.

On the offensive side, I think it's fair to say that GB's OL pushed Indy's DL around pretty good.

that happens every week.

that was an embarrassment. Colts were not prepared, poorly coached, and got their butts handed to them today. The officiating was incredibly bad, but I expect that from Winter's crew, which is one of the worst.

For those of you who thought the Colts were back, I think it's clear the Texans and the Ravens were hell-bent on giving games away, rather than the Colts having "turned a corner". They suck and will NOT make the play-offs this year.

They were calling it ticky-tack, but they were calling it that way BOTH ways. Makes for a long game, but at least it's fair.

i dunno, the first unnecessary roughness was incredibly weak, and the hands to the face calls against the colts were terrible. the packers corners were getting away with murder. I don't think it was evenly officiated. that being said, the Colts had TONS of penalties that were inexcusable. offsides, false starts, delay of game on the punt, that it's hard for me to lay too much blame on the officials. the colts would have lost regardless, but the Colts DB's and the Packers DB's were operating under different rules. Every time we touched a Pack WR, there was a flag, but the Packers were knocking guys down, grabbing them, and no flags were thrown.
