THE NEWS

Tight end Jeremy Shockey was in pain following the team's blowout loss to the Panthers, and may miss Week 8, according to ESPN.com.

Our View

Shockey was feeling pain in the area he had surgery for a sports hernia a few weeks ago. However, it is possible it's due to scar tissue and not a new injury.

I did not know about this. Totally sucks as I traded for Shockey last week.

Yeah he was whining after the game that the Saints misdiagnosed his injury in the preseason and he should have had surgery back then...

I do know he made the trip to London as there was a picture of him this morning arriving at Heathrow airport.

I'm worried that this thing could have been taken care of in camp, like it should have been," he said, according to the AP. "If it wasn't misdiagnosed in camp like it was there'd have been no problems.... Next time I know. When I get hurt I'll get three or four opinions besides just the team's."

Wish he would take the route Colston took after the game and be a bit more professional but I know thats not going to happen. What you see is what you get with Shockey.

Colston's comments:

Colston said he didn't aggravate his surgically repaired thumb, but he admitted that he was out of sync after missing the past five games. He did not catch a pass, and he was removed from the lineup in the fourth quarter.

"I wasn't productive, so they pulled me from the game and got a guy in there that was able to make plays today," said Colston, who was critical of himself for two dropped passes. "Through the week I thought I was ready. In pregame I thought I was ready. Then I got out on the field and just wasn't able to make the plays that I normally make. Unfortunately, I ended up hurting the team in the process."

Sounds like he is feeling a little better.

WATFORD, England -- One of the first people I saw upon walking into The Grove, the resort where the New Orleans Saints are staying this week, was tight end Jeremy Shockey.

He was bouncing around and seemed to be in a much better mood than he was in Charlotte less than 24 hours ago. After Sunday's loss to the Panthers, Shockey said he had aggravated the sports hernia he recently had surgery before, questioned why the original injury wasn't diagnosed sooner and wasn't even sure he'd make the trip to London for Sunday's game with the San Diego Chargers.

He did and coach Sean Payton said Shockey was feeling better Monday than he did Sunday. Payton said he expects Shockey to be able to play Sunday. Shockey wasn't available to talk to the media, but he seemed to be moving well and was smiling as he passed through the lobby several times.

"I'm sure he's got some soreness," Payton said. "Last night on the plane, it started to feel a little bit better. With both he and Marques [Colston], I've got to be mindful that they're just now getting back in it. You just can't take for granted that you just come back out and play at 100 percent. He's right now on course. He's following all the protocol with his doctor and our trainers and we've just got to monitor how much and making sure there aren't any setbacks. I know he was sore after the game and obviously frustrated. We've just got to make sure we're not taking any negative steps backwards."

Payton said he and Shockey talked during the flight across the Atlantic and he understood Shockey's frustration.

"There's a frustration for all of us in that there was a time in training camp when it went from groin to hernia," Payton said. "It's not uncommon in regards to the diagnosis. Fortunately for us, we know exactly what it is. He saw a specialist in Philadelphia and that guy did a great job with the surgery.

"It's frustrating because you're talking about a player who's used to excelling at a certain level. We discussed this a little bit last night on the flight, how difficult it is when you're used to playing at a certain level and this injury is keeping him from being 100 percent. I do think he's moving forward and getting better. He's an emotional guy and that's one of the things I like about him. I like the fact it's so important to him."

Shockey was back at practice today but limited.

LONDON COLNEY, ENGLAND -- Cornerback Mike McKenzie (knee), right guard Jahri Evans (ankle) and defensive end Will Smith (abdominal strain) all returned to the practice field for full sessions Thursday at the Arsenal FC Training Center.

Jeremy Shockey (hernia) was limited, while center Jonathan Goodwin (knee) and defensive tackle Brian Young did not practice. Running back Reggie Bush also was listed as out and is not in the country.

I guess it is too early to see if he will play?

Hopefully we'll know more after tomorrows practice. Seems 50/50 to me right now.

On one hand it could be he'll play because he has the bye next week to rest up/recoup.

On the other hand it could be he'll sit because he'll have the bye next week which will give him an extra week to get fully healthy.
