The downside of big money contests

FFOC does an average job at enticing owners to stay active throughout the entire season IMHO. There three bracket system and three part scoring system means that even bad teams have only logged 1/3 of their final score thus far and they will now compete against the other bottom 2200 teams for a seperate set of prizes.

What I have noticed in multiple FFOC leagues is teams tanking it to drop a "tier" so that they go from being the worst team in the top tier to the best team in a lower tier.

The prize differential between the mid tier (1st and Goal) and the low tier (Red Zone) is negligible after first place.

Consider this, you have the chance to be one of the top 100 or so teams in a 4000 team bracket, a certain percentage of which probably have quit. Or you can be the worst team in a bracket of 2600, where up to 1000 of those teams were in the Las Vegas Bracket and are now competing against you as their consolation prize.

I bet they had a lot of tanking this week.
