Grits and Shins
So how many of you are participating? I have found that I have lost interest. Last year's format where I had to match wits against all other players in an attempt to find the weekly sleepers and start the studs at the right time ... while still saving players for the playoffs ... was a far superior contest. I don't even bother with the slot machine version they have now. Is it just me because I have been so busy lately?
Gopher
I still submit my weekly lineup, but I agree 100%... No real strategy, other than starting the best players for the week. In other words, the strategy does not extend from week to week, so it is far less intriguing to me. I personally don't buy the theory that it had to be changed because of too many drop outs with the other format... Who cares how many drop out. The people who are in contention won't drop out (with the old format). Stick with what works... the old format clearly "worked", in my opinion. There may have been a lot of drop outs, but there were also a bunch of us who agreed that it was one of our favorite contests/leagues to participate in. Brentastic
I agree - it's just not that exciting this year. Although I have been submitting a lineup every week.
Grits and Shins
I agree - it's just not that exciting this year. Although I have been submitting a lineup every week. When I do submit a lineup ... and I've missed at least 2 or 3 weeks ... I don't give it much thought. It is truely a dumbed down contest. Tommyknocker
I have entered a lineup all but one week, but it definitely isn't nearly as enjoyable as the old format. I don't know as that I ever really understood the reasoning behind its demise, but I know now that I should have entered the offshoot league that is being run independently here on the boards. Oh well there's always next year.

It is my understanding that the board administrators website owners thought a weekly contest would generate more participation and less drop outs versus a yearly contest that required weekly entries. Puddy
I enter every week but also don't give it much thought. I've probably started Drew Brees 90% of the time. Although I'm not doing very well in the MVP Challenge Memorial either.
Tommyknocker
In this instance I say quality over quantity, hands down. The enjoyment just isn't there in this new format.
alexgaddis
I have only done it three weeks so far...got close one week but there is no thinking required, its complete luck 100%
pseudolefty
I concur that this isn't as exciting and requires less strategizing as to when to play the studs. Still, it's better than nothing and I submit a lineup every week.
Hat Trick
I submitted a lineup the first week and that was it. I just don't have any enjoyment in this format and don't really care for it at all. I doubt I'll submit a lineup the rest of the year. MikesVikes
I've put in a lineup every week but last week I played a bunch of losers when I didn't check it at the end of the week. I need another 5000 members to not put in lineups in every week and I'm gold!

RaiderSteve
This is funny that this topic came up as I was thinking about starting a thread on this this morning. I gave up about 4 weeks ago! It's just like I predicted it to be, very boring with no strategy what so ever involved. I was lucky enough to get into the the MVP Challenge Memorial with some fellow Huddlers! Although I'm currently near dead last I still haven't given up and will continue to give it my best shot each week! DMD I'm begging you to please bring back the MVP Challenge for next season!!! That other contest is for Fantasy Football Rooks!
Savage Beatings
It's a free contest. I like it. It's not the old one, not by any stretch, but I still like being able to try to guess which players are going to go off each week. It's not as easy as just picking the top ranked players for the week (not if you want to win anyway).

pseudolefty
An example of how less focused I've been with the new format. I've already made the mistake of submitting Adrian Peterson of the Bears yesterday (instead of the Vikings) and earlier in the year submitted Steve Smith of the Giants (instead of the Panthers). Both players went off on the week I made the wrong selection. I scrutinized my lineups much more carefully last year.

I also forgot to put my Weekly Blitz picks in this week. I missed the early games twice previously, but this week I didn't remember until the late games had already started. Sorry, Blitz. Guess I'll have to wait till next year be horrible again. Edited November 11, 2008 by jaxfactor
Riffraff
Only advantage of this game is that you can miss a week and still play the game. Do that in the old game and your season was over.

Great point. DMD/WW will have real stats available to determine if more folks played this format vs. the old. I agree that the MVP Challenge was far superior in terms of 'strategy'. However, I also understand that appealing to the masses has an advantage as well.

I think it is almost impossible to win two weeks in a row.

It occured to me during the reading of this thread that I have submitted a lineup each week this season under the previous year's rules. I have not yet used the same player more than once So, if you're a dipchit like me, you can still have the challenge and strategy of playing the old way
