I haven't seen any Viking bashing this week and it's extremely disappointing. :D

DMD picks a 20-10 Tampa Bay win.

Go Tampa Bay.

Some injury news-

Madieu Williams doubtful for Sunday

November 14th, 2008 – 2:02 PM by Chip Scoggins

Vikings coach Brad Childress said he is listing safety Madieu Williams as doubtful for Sunday’s game because of a left shoulder injury.

Williams said he injured his shoulder when he fell down during the special-teams portion of practice on Wednesday. He called it a “freak” injury.

“I was just kind of going for the ball and took a nasty fall,” Williams said. “It’s kind of unfortunate but there are worse things that could happen. I just have to bounce back.”

Williams has played in two games after missing the first seven games because of a neck injury. He said he is not frustrated by this latest injury.

“You know what, there is a lot of things that have happened in my life where this is nothing to me,” he said. “I’m very resilient. I’m going to just keep fighting. Whatever happens I’m just going to take it as it comes.”

Rookie Tyrell Johnson would start in Williams’ place if he can’t play. Johnson filled in for him the first seven games.

– Childress said the team still has not made a roster move to fill Charles Gordon’s spot. Childress said he was planning to meet with vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman later this afternoon about it. Childress said the team has until Saturday afternoon to make a move, but he said it’s not unusual for teams to carry less than 53 on the active roster because only 45 players can be up on game day.

Update: Tampa Bay’s injury report for Friday: Safety Jermaine Phillips (forearm), out; right end Alex Smith (ankle), doubtful; linebacker Derrick Brooks (knee), probable; running back Earnest Graham (knee), questionable; quarterback Brian Griese (right elbow), doubtful; defensive lineman Jimmy Wilkerson (illness), practiced today and should play; fullback B.J. Askew (hamstring), questionable; running back Warrick Dunn (back), questionable; wide receiver Ike Hilliard (shoulder), questionable; and defensive tackle Jovan Haye (foot), probable.

It's going to be a tough game for the Vikings to win. It would be nice, but I just don't see it happening unless our defense plays well. Maybe we can squeak one out.

Very possible. Is Madieu Williams out? That would hurt.

If you do loose and GB wins there will be a 3 way tie in the division.

I think with Williams out, the situation probably favors the Bucs, unless Graham and Dunn are really hurt going in. They will probably be hurt coming out, regardless, but I think Garcia is the kind of QB that gives the Vikes trouble, mobile, on the move, creating opportunities. The pass rush has killed immobile QB's, but Garcia usually plays like his hair is on fire, so he should react ok if he has any running options at all. I think the Purple will have to try to pound the ball on the ground, as Kiffen is a master at controlling a game, especially with blitz packages. I'm prepared to see Frerotte throw two interceptions, hope he throws one nice TD, and Peterson and Taylor can run consistently for stretches. The screens and slants will be key today, too.

This win would be huge for the Vikes, I just don't see the matchup as a good one. Go Vikes!

I love watching Childress keep AP on the bench with 2:00 left and down by 6 :D

The last couple of weeks, the Vikes pulled out some lucky wins. I've listened to fans call in to post-game shows and say amazingly stupid stuff about how maybe Gus really is a good QB, and maybe Childress isn't that bad after all.

I hope this loss helps to teach people that Frerotte and Childress are both completely useless in their respective positions with the team.

The Vikes played ok (not great, but solid) in the 1st Qtr and then slowed down in the 2nd Qtr (which is totally all Childress - that's his style to a T). But the Bucs came out in the second half of the game and really stuck it to the Vikes. Childress had no answer. He was out-coached... again. His Chilly-ball game plans of keeping the score close and trying to pull it out late in the game just isn't cutting it.

And Gus? Oh brother! He has benefited this season from the occassionally lucky pass intereference call, but he lacks so much skill it's a wonder he is even a backup QB in the league, let alone a starter. I can't understand why Tarvaris Jackson isn't still in there, because make no mistake... T-Jack is a better QB than Gus Frerotte. That might not be saying much unfortunately.

With a chance to pull ahead with a clear lead in the lame NFC North, the Vikings showed today why they won't make the playoffs. Complete and total lack of imagination from Brad Childress + complete and total lack of skill from Gus Frerotte.

A sign of poor coaching is bad special teams and turnovers. What did the Vikes do in the 4th quarter? A special teams turnover and an offensive turnover.

And then, after being moderately successful running the ball, and having a great O-line and the best RB in the game, you don't run once in the 4th quarter? In a close game. Are you absolutely kidding me? You are a running football team. It's how you move the ball, it's how you score. And if Kiffin made adjustments, make your own, don't completely stop running your best player. Unfathomable.

Childress is abysmal. I feel bad for the layers giving it their all only to get let down week in week out by Childress. I can't believe they don't fire him. It's an embarassment.

Well...we didn't have the ball in the 4th quarter until 3 mins left in the game. Not sure how successful we're going to be running the ball from our own 20 yard line with 3 mins left in the game.

I have to disagree about T-Jax being a better QB than Frerotte. Completely. We saw what T-Jax was - a kid who is in over his head, who makes bad reads (if he reads anything at all), throws a bad ball, especially deep, and cannot manage the team. Berrian was non-existent with Jackson at QB, and that alone makes Frerotte a better choice. You have to take the good with the bad with Frerotte, and against good defenses there seems to be more bad than good, like yesterday. He still makes the occasional good pass, which usually results in good things for the Vikes. T-Jax cannot be trusted with the football team, and I don't think he ever will be. And I defended Childress for trying to make him a good QB, and saw this season he is not ready - and I don't think he ever will be, either.

Childress continues to make poor in-game choices, and we did see Gruden and Kiffen make the adjustments to get a win. The game went exactly as I expected it to, with Garcia running around and making plays. I also agree with the assessment that special teams and penalities are the best way to measure coaching impact. Their special teams are horrible, and they continue to allow Ryan Cook to kill them with the untimely penalty week after week.

I think Childress has the team behind him and playing hard, and they are still in the running for a playoff berth. But, with the lack of a playmaker at QB (no matter which of the two is in there), and the poor special teams and consistent penalities, they will not go far if they go anywhere at all.

This is completely false...

Week 12:

Gus Frerotte 12-20 for 120 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT

I accept your apology.

In all seriousness... Gus Frerotte is so amazingly bad at QB that I guarantee that there is no way that Tarvaris Jackson could be doing any worse than him. I'm not saying that T-Jack is the answer... I'm saying that for sure Gus Frerotte is NOT the answer... not long term... not short term. He is incredibly bad at what he attempts to do. He should not be anywhere near a starting position in the NFL this season. Giving Tarvaris another shot could not hurt the team at this point... plus you at the very least have a stronger arm, more mobility and athleticism, and who knows maybe one day things would actually start to click for the kid. If not, you still have someone who can manage to give you 12-20, 120, 0 TD, 1 INT each game.

I like it. Bring back TJack.

I wonder what could have been if Chilly & Co hadn't tried to play games by cutting T. Thigpen hoping he wouldn't be claimed and end up on the practice squad a few years ago...

I questioned signing Jared Allen. While a great player I thought it was the wrong side of the ball. They could have drafted Flacco instead.

Cassel or Derek Anderson(or McNabb) may be available.
