WashingtonD
A couple of things about Hightower... 1) The Cardinals are lousy at run blocking, I mean really bad 2) They playcalling is awful, he should be running north/south, getting a running start and moving through the line, they are doing delay hand offs where he gets happy feet in the backfield and throw for losses 3) It's becoming very clear that his performance against St Louis was more about how bad St Louis is than how good Hightower is. WashD your 1st 2 comments were right on the money....but I still think Hightower is a good back and will eventually be able to produce when they figure out this run blocking thing... however, his one great performance as a starter did have more to do with how bad the Rams are.....but not in spite of "how bad Hightower is"...because I still think he is very talented and can be considered around top 10 material when starting... I just wish the Cardinals would figure out how to run block so he can actually get yards other than when the defense is completely convinced they are passing....(which they should be anyways with the way that offense is run)...but they definitely need to work on this in the offseason as I think it's too late to fix this at this point....it's just really that bad... WashingtonD
Av, I agree, the kid has a lot of talent, I don't think he's "bad" at all and when he starts downhill he runs with purpose that Edge has lacked this season. It's interesting how much play JJ got on Sunday, Wisenhunt is clearly trying to figure out how to get the most out of his rushing game, I give him credit, he clearly realizes the Cards cannot be successful in the Playoffs if they are a one dimensional passing team. WashD exactly.....they can't keep up this quick-strike type offense....they need some ball control when they get a lead otherwise they will have a short run at the playoffs.... the good news is, they have such a commanding lead on the rest of the division that they can afford to keep hammering away at the run game over the next 6 weeks to hopefully find a rhythm there.... fantasy-wise, this doesn't look good because I don't think Hightower owners thought Arrington would get as much play as he did... tomfin2000
I have to admit that as someone who has been an unapologetic Hightower fan since early in the preseason, I'm very disapponted. The reasons given above for the poor performances (and the one good one) are all very valid, but I would have still expected Hightower to at least match Edge's production. In fact, Hightower was actually more valuable when Edge was starting. I hope he's not hitting the rookie wall already as he should still be pretty fresh compared to guys like Forte and Slaton. Suture
I agree, the run blocking is terrible. His YPC average was lower than Edge's before he took over. I don't see what the hype is on this guy.
