The SEC

SEC=UGA

I think yesterday confirms that the SEC is probably one of the weaker conferences this year. Let's review:

UGA lost to Tech

Vandy lost to Wake

USC lost to Clemson

Kentucky lost big to Tennessee

I think these games demonstrate the significance of the weakness of the SEC. Each of these teams lost to ACC schools that are in what was considered a weak conference and a number of these games weren't even close. Tennessee killed UK, this is the same UT team that got spanked by UCLA. I sincerely don't see how, outside of Bama and Florida, any of the SEC teams are going to show well in the bowls against major schools in the bowl games.

On a more pleasant note, there is always next year and I look forward to a rebound by the SEC as a whole.

ETA:

Yes, I realize UT and UK are both SECOND schools, I was using this for the UCLA tie in.

Without question, the SEC is down this year. Anyone who cannot admit that would have to be a blind homer. This season, there are two elite SEC teams, Florida and Alabama. After that, there are some good but not great teams. I believe that the winner of the Alabama-Florida game will go on to win the NC, but that is by no means a lock.

Unless bama wins next week there should be no SEC teams in the title game! The big 12 south is not down and deserve 2 teams playing for the title unless bama stays unbeaten!

Using this ignorant statement, I'm sure you beleive Boise and Utah both belong over OU

At least you can agree Boise has OU's number and certainly deserves it over them, right ? If not, then shut your pie hole fool.

Hell these inbreds from the sticks finally agree this conference is crap! Which is what I've been saying for a month! Maybe the will finally understand I'm right about this as well!

Within the last month, you said that Florida was one of the two best teams in the country.

It is important for you to say that Florida does not belong because otherwise Texas fans will keep throwing in your face that they beat OU HTH. However, if you keep screaming over and over that OU and TX should be in the NC, you remove the argument. I very much hope that UF wins next week and they get to face OU. While you are certain that OU will win, probably by about 21 pts given the gimmicky offense UF sports in combination with their crappy defense, I think it will be a good game where Florida ultimately prevails.

FLA a month ago had quality wins over GA and LSU. Since LSU has lost twice and isnt ranked, GA lost again and is now ranked #19. OU at this time hadnt beat Tech and Okie St, nor had they scored 60+ pts in 4 consecutive games, now they have, and have looked more impressive than FLA over better opponents. So the schedule has now played out, FLA's is alot less impressive now than we thought then, and OU's dominance is even more eveident than even I thought at that time. So its obvious why some have a right to change their mind.

I hope Bama wins next week and OU gets them undefeated in the NC game. That will be a game.

Besides, it doesnt matter what either of us think, we are not on the field to settle it, so get as mad as you want.

In my field, we call this "projection."

Projection based on what. FLA shouldnt be ahead of Sc right now, and one quality win all season shouldnt vault them over any of the Big 12 south trio. Their loss and SOS is simply much better. But the humans in this case are not looking at what has happened to FLAs schedule after they played them. Its like LSU and GA are good, those are quality wins, and no one is going back and saying, wait a minute. The Computers certainly are doing that. Just look how far back FLA is in the computers to OU and Texas.

In typical fashion, your homer glasses has you seeing things. You don't like the human polls because in your opinion they're not considering Florida's previous games, but you like the human polls at the same time for having OU ranked over Texas

You like the computers because you feel they have Florida way behind, yet you don't like the computers because they rank Texas over OU :D

Fact is the computers don't even take H2H matchups into consideration which is a complete sham or Texas would undoubtably stay ahead of OU . So I guess you like the computers again if that happens, but won't if it doesn't :D

I'm really confused here.

You're right, by SEC standards the overall conference does seem down.

Hopefully it will provide us with better bowl competition. Face it, these past couple of seasons have been no contest.

2007-2008 SEC Overall Bowl Record 7-2 / BCS Bowl Record 2-0 / BCS NC 1-0

2006-2007 SEC Overall Bowl Record 6-3 / BCS Bowl Record 2-0 / BCS NC 1-0

I don't think anyone would disagree with the fact that the SEC is down from what it typically is. Mind you, of the 4 teams whose losses you pointed to above, only UGA would ever be considered a standard bearer for the conference. I mean, are we seriously pointing to the fact that Vandy lost to Wake as an indicator of the SEC being down?

Again, too many schools that are usually good are simply not. LSU, UGA, Auburn, UT... That said, who besides the Big 12 does that put them behind? Maybe the ACC is deeper (as was possibly illustrated this past weekend) but there's nobody in that conference that could compete with the top end of the SEC. See FL dismantling a FSU team that's about as good as anyone in the ACC. However, the Big 10 is neither deeper nor as strong at the top. The Big East? Next. Pac 10 is USC and everyone else yet again.

So in this, it's down year, the SEC simply has to settle with being only the 2nd strongest conference. Bummer.

The ironic thing is that this might be the first year in a while that 1 or 2 teams from the SEC were able to assemble a gaudy record due in large part to having an easy conference road. Something that elite teams from other conferences get to do often. Up until basically last year, OU and UT each had a one game season, against each other. Sure they had scrappy teams to contend with but hardly a gauntlet of challengers, and the title game was typically a joke (as it again should be this year). OSU's recent run is due very much in large part to dominating a Big 10 that has simply not been that great. USC is sort of a strange case because they own the Pac 10 in general but seem to only lose within conference and to teams they should beat. ACC and Big East don't merit mention as neither has been a factor for several years.

I should also add that, despite the strangle hold the SEC had on the top conference status up until certainly this year and quite possibly last, all that us SEC homers ever wanted as a result was the benefit of the doubt for one of our teams to be included in the NC game (which, considering our BCS record of late, is hardly asking a lot), not as Sgt Ryan suggests, an all SEC NC game.

Same goes this year. I mean, if Sgt Ryan was an SEC honk, he'd be saying that if FL beat Bama in a close game, they should just replay it in January.
