Outshined
Ruling on Williamses not imminent Last update: December 10, 2008 - 2:47 PM When U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson last week issued a temporary injunction allowing Minnesota Vikings Pat and Kevin Williams -- along with three New Orleans Saints -- to continue practicing and playing with their team, he said he would issue a more detailed ruling later. Well, "later" isn't here yet. According to Magnuson's scheduling clerk, the judge has been working on other cases and no additional ruling is imminent, although she encouraged reporters to "check back on Friday." Until Magnuson issues a new ruling, the order he issued last week remains in effect prohibiting the NFL from imposing four-game suspension on players the league said tested positive for a banned diuretic that can be used as a masking agent for steroids. The delay is good news for the Saints players, Deuce McAllister, Charles Grant and Will Smith. New Orleans faces the Chicago Bears in the NFL's Thursday night game this week. The Vikings are at Arizona on Sunday. JAMES WALSH Link
CaP'N GRuNGe
Apparently the Judge is a Vikings fan. A Vikings win against the Cards combined with a Saints win against the Bears this week clinches the North for Minnesota.

And the saints are a different team in the cold outdoors. I own ADP in one league and hope for a big game out of him. I just don't know if the MN secondary can handle the AZ receivers. BillyBalata
Judge extends injunction through December 22nd 12/11/2008, updated 4:29 p.m. Phil Mackey, KFAN.com The Williams Wall will stand for at least another two weeks, and probably much longer. The Associated Press reports Judge Paul Magnuson has extended his preliminary injunction against the NFL's suspensions of Pat, Kevin and the three Saints players who all violated the league's steroid policy. According to the report, Judge Magnuson asked both the NFLPA and the NFL to propose schedules by Monday, December 22nd -- the day after the Vikings play the Atlanta Falcons -- to file pleadings. In other words, the two sides won't even state their cases until just a few days before the final week of the regular season. Folks, this case is likely set to drag on for a long time, which is good news for the Vikings. Pat and Kevin Williams are likely to continue playing into January if the Vikings earn a playoff bid. Update: NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that the StarCaps case will drag out until after the playoffs. I'm not sure the NFL will like the precedent this sets. They may file with another judge soon.
cdrudge
The judge said he needs more time to rule. I wonder how this will play out. I'm not sure the NFL will like the precedent this sets. They may file with another judge soon. According to ESPN, it's not that he needs more time to rule, but rather there was sufficient evidence for further proceedings. He also said that the union would likely succeed in demonstrating that the NFL breached it's duty by failing to inform players what it knew about StarCaps. However he did NOT say that the players did win...just that there needs to be full discovery and additional hearings if the sides can't come to an agreement. I do think they shouldn't be suspended, but would hate to see these things settled in court every time.
cdrudge
I do think they shouldn't be suspended, but would hate to see these things settled in court every time.Is the lawsuit about being suspended over tainted drugs (whatever the reason), or about the NFL possibly violating the CBA by not informing players of what they knew, so therefore they broke the agreement first? I agree with you that I wouldn't want the court to decide if they players should be suspended for the tainted drugs if the NFL didn't have prior knowledge. I think the NFL should be the deciding party in that case. However I think that the lawsuit really is more then just the suspension due to the tainting.
