Elimination Pools

I'm still alive in two of these things - one is down to 6 players out of 94 starters, the other is down to 5 out of 65.

I think I'm going with the Saints this weekend coming up - I know Detroit has been playing a little tougher of late and I hate taking a road team, but the pickings are starting to get a little slim. My only other viable option would be the Patriots hosting the Cardinals.

Looking at my two pools, looks like very few if any players have used the Saints thus far so I suspect they will be a popular pick this weekend.

Who else is still alive, how many are left in your pool, and who are you taking in week 16?

I'm still alive - there are 3 of us left. I am in the same predicament as you are. None of the matchups are obvious this week. I am debating taking the Saints. I also am contempllating Denver at home against Buffalo and Chicago at home against GB. Right now I have the Saints selected but I think I'm changing to Denver-especially if JP is starting. Very tough choice this week

E2A: Edwards is starting... I think I'm going with Saints.

Man, I just do not trust Denver no matter who starts for the Bills. I lost one entry in each of these pools when they couldn't beat the Chiefs at home, and then a whole bunch of others were eliminated when the Raiders spanked them at home. I'm steering clear of the Bronocs for sure.

I can take NO who is at DET ... NO is favored by 6.5

I can take TB who gets SD at home ... TB is favored by 3.5

I can take NE who gets ARI at home ... NE is favored by 8

I can take PHI who is at WAS ... PHI is favored by 3.5

All 4 of those look good but I would probably go with NO and stay away from Philly. Unless of course you are willing to risk your chances and have Philly get knocked off

I run a fairly large one (1600 entries, $50k pot), and if this week doesn't thin it out, looking at a potentail HUGE tie at the end as have 61 people left. Three seasons ago, had a 21 way tie, and last year a 14 way tie - this one could dwarf that. I'm hoping for some big upsets this week. My deadline is early (today at 5) so I'll post the distribution of picks in here once that passes.

I was in a big pool of 2500+ people and they finally decided 2 years ago to start having double and even triple picks the last 4 weeks to avoid, or at least try to, any ties and splitting of pots.

Yea, I'm going to go to double picks next year. Was thinking about it after the 21 way tie, but it was the first time anyone had gone perfect in my 8 years of running it. Then, in 06, only two guys made it to week 17 and both missed, so figured I could stay away. Last year's 14 I though about and said "give it one more year".....that may have been dumb if I end up with 50 tied - still a $1000 payoff for a $30 investement, but a big pain in the neck for me and not what that sort of pool is supposed to do. WIll go double picks next year, probably based on some percentage left sort of thing.

What's funny is that I had lost 90% of the entries by week 6 (down from 1631 to 150), and the next 10 weeks have only lost 89...

I of course lost my three entries by week 3....good at running the pool, terrible at being in it

Help me out here.

I can take Indy tonight vs Jax which now moved to an 8 pt fav from 5.5. I would be the only one of 36 left taking them (only one other can do so still). If I win, I sit back and hope for upsets this week as many people are taking Texans, NE, and Saints (all possible).

Otherwise my next best bet is NE at home against Ariz, which is popular. After that Den vs Buff, and 9ers vs Rams.

Do I put my trust in Peyton tonight? Indy and NE are both must wins, more so for NE.

Thanks

Thanks.

With NO, you have I think the best chance of the 2 left for Detroit to win a game. Unless history is going to be written this year, they are playing harder than any team in the league right now.

Oakland loves playing spoiler.

I think you have to chance New Orleans here as no matter how hard Detroit plays, their defense still sucks.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I've got DEN, ATL, or MIN too but I don't like them any better.

I was surprised of how many teams were taken this week in mine. 61 entries left out of 1631 - here's the breakdown:

HOU 15

NE 15

NO 11

DEN 7

SF 3

TB 3

IND 2 Wins

MIA 2

NYJ 2

PHI 1

Last few weeks have been 5 to 7 teams, with almost everyone on maybe 3 of them. To have 10 teams, 9 of them with more than one pick, is wild (and hopefully will lead to some losses as I don't want to have to write 60 checks).

It is bad this week. And with all the $ at stake it really makes you think it through. Maybe too much. I am leaning Saints, but as the week goes on I am convincing myself that this is Detroit's week. The other option is am leaning toward is Chicago. If Forte is healthy, I like them at home on Monday night in the cold beating a GB team that has nothing to play for. However, the Bears could be eliminated from the playoffs even before they step on the field Monday night against Green Bay if Dallas beats Baltimore Saturday night, and Tampa Bay defeats San Diego and Minnesota beats Atlanta on Sunday.
