keggerz Posted December 21, 2008 Share Posted December 21, 2008 (edited) I have no problem taking my lumps when I make statements/rankings etc about players but there are times that there are things that just happen that make no sense and are a complete anomaly with regards to the stats and trends..with that said feel free to bash me if I am wrong about something but understand I will still continue to do my best to put out the best possible info that I can... I will use the following comment from the IDP Game Breakdowns to show what I mean... someone wrote: "Wow a 4 star for Zach Thomas and he puts up 2 asst tackles. I wouldn't have picked him up however with an injury and looking for a few extra points but come on, watching that game shows that Thomas is way to slow and should never have been projected at a 4 Star." This was my answer and reasoning for ranking Zach as a 4 star play... Thomas had a very very very poor game but it sure was an outlier for what to expect from a MLB/ILB versus the Ravens...this season versus the Ravens MLBs/ILBs are averaging over 8 tackles/game...and Thomas has had his most productive games versus run heavy teams like the Ravens...12 tackles vs Wash in wk 4, 11 tackles vs TB in wk 8 and 11 tackles vs the Giants in week 9...add to that Thomas has only recorded 4 or fewer tackles in 4 games this year and one of those was last week vs a Giants team that only ran the ball 18 times...in the other games with 4 or fewer he faced less then 20 rushes in each game...the Ravens came into the game averaging just under 40 rushing attempts/game...the fact that the ravens ran the ball 36 times and Zach had such a poor day was simply an anomaly that no one could have seen coming...but thanks for reading What you get from me is research...and if I am making a statement that doesn't match the numbers/research I always say it is a gut feeling...sorry that this person got hosed by Zach Thomas, just like I did in MULTIPLE leagues(one being a SB matchup and the other a 3rd place game)...unfortunately we dont have a crystal ball. Too bad tools will still blame you when a guy doesn't perform as expected or an unknown blows up. Its just advice based on research. But they lose sight of the fact that a recommendation is just that, a recommendation. You pay your stock broker to recommend stocks to you but he cannot guarantee success. I'm sure if you could guarantee the tackles that a player will get from week to week, it would cost a hell of a lot more to subscribe to the huddle. The point is that you (you as in the prospective FFer looking for advice) need to set your lineup every week. And as such, you gotta take responsibility for your choice that you make. You pay for data and an extrapolation of what to expect for the upcoming week based on that data. As with any statistical set, there will be anomalies and outlier. That's why the games are played. I, for one, lean on the message boards from time to time when stuck with a tough choice. That being said, I own any choice I make, right or wrong. To blame someone who supplies the data for you to make your choice is simply being unwilling to say "I made the wrong choice, oh well, hopefully I do better next year." Gotta love this time of year. Nothin new there. I would not even bother to respond to such critics who expect others to win their FF leagues for them. Nor would I respond to other loser idiots who have no lives of their own and who's only enjoyment is apparently to hold grudges and take pleasure in other people's misfortunes. Usually, those people have other very serious life issues, and have to find an outlet to vent their anger at others for their own miserable failures in life. Take pity on them.
