Ladies and Gentlemen (and H8Tank) of the Huddle:

Today, the morning after the Lions completed their 75th anniversary season without managing to win a single game, seems like the perfect time to do something I've been thinking about doing for literally years--starting my own Lions-focussed blog. Expect frequent, lengthy, detailed, long-winded, verbose, sesquipidalian diatribes on all things related to the Motor City Kitties. The URL is:

http://thelionsinwinter.blogspot.com

For those of you that remember my quasi-annual Big Lions Thing, expect that only moreso. Please, please, I would love to get any and all feedback you guys may have. Thanks in advance to all of you, my Huddle brethren and sistren.

Peace

Don't lion sleep in the winter? I mean we know they sleep in the fall....

J/K Policy... I'll ake a read. You should consider changing teams. How about the Jets? It's nice to root for a team that always makes the playoffs and rarely disappoints.

Those using very long words like sesquipedalian should spell them correctly, especially when said word itself means "given to using long words".

Edit to add: Damn good read. :D

Maybe you should rename it The Lions in The Cold Months, since to spell winter you are going to have to use win, which doesn't really fit with the Lions right now. :D

J/K buddy, I will be sure to check it out.

Nice read. You summed up nicely what it means to be a Lions fan. While I'm sure it would be nice to root for a winning team, I'll keep pulling for the Lions.

Yeah, you do have to have a Google account (a Gmail address, for example) since Blogspot got bought by Google. It's free and harmless, though I think you can use the RSS feed to keep tabs on it, too, iif you're an RSS-y kind of person.

Very well written and full of passion. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the blog and will continue to do so. It really opened my eyes to Marinelli who from the outsider view I had, I felt must have been a horrible coach. Good luck in '09 and the April draft. Hopefully they will add enough pieces to restore some hope in the franchise and start turning the ship around (same goes for my own misery filled team...)

He is/was a horrible head coach. Maybe he is a tough honest guy and a good motivator, but, as a head coach, he was in way over his head. There's a reason that he hadn't been a head coach prior to the Lions gig. Ever. Not even at a high school level.

An incompetent front office selecting an incompetent head coach. Now there's a surprise.

Thanks, man, I appreciate that. I really feel like Marinelli would have been a good head coach with the right staff around him--but he chose Mike Martz and Ted Cotrell, two good coaches whose philosophies couldn't be further from his own, as his first two coordinators. He fired Cotrell after the first season, and then Martz after the second, and it's obvious that both his son-in-law and the OL coach were in WAY over their had as the DC and OC, respectively. Further, the cupboard was just too bare, talent-wise. I don't think any coach could have turned that group into a consistent winner.

The only positive you can really take from the Marinelli tenure is that, well, the bench is in place. You have a team full of hard workers and good character guys, and outside of Megatron, no subset of those players is so important or irreplacable that you have to build the team around them. In short, this is probably as close as the Lions will get to getting to start over.
