The Million Dollar penalty

Packers RB Ryan Grant lost a $1.35 million bonus due to an overturned call in Week 17.

Referee Ed Hochuli correctly reversed the ruling on the field after Grant scored an 80-yard touchdown. The resultant 21-yard gain kept him from finishing with the 1,250 yards that would have given him a Top-5 finish in the NFC.

Ouch....

I wonder how many teams give some credit for coming close in situations like this where the player 'just missed' some performance hurdle?

 Jerry Jones laughs at your insolence! ...while ordering a Gin and Tonic :D

Technically it wasnt a penalty but a reversed call on the field. Grant landed on a guy that tackled him. The call on the field was that he rolled off the guy and never touched the ground. Upon further review his butt touched the turf. Not that it matters to Grant, but it was a good hustle play to keep running.

In tampa, there was a huge issue last year cause Garcia had a number of snaps or playing time clause for a million (believe he's only getting a couple million, which is woefully short for a starting NFL QB who did make the pro bowl). He didn't get it the bonus, but only because they held him out of I believe 6 of the last 8 quarters - only needed to probably play one of those. To make it worse, they pretty much told him they'd make it up to him, so he didn't raise a stink at the time. Then they didn't do anything for him at all.

Probably depends on the owner's pockets, the teams focus (Tampa is known as a player-unfriendly team at this point), and if they care if the player comes back. I'd think in this case they may give Grant something (although I gotta wonder if there was any escalator in their - I've read that we always read about these huge ones they just miss, but that almost always there's a few steps below that softens the blow).

Perhaps a little Jenny Craig in the off season would lead to a smaller butt giving him the ground clearance he needed to achieve his goal ...

After drafting him in at least three leagues and the start he had to the season (dragging my teams into the mire with him), excuse me for not shedding a tear.

If he had an incentive based contract, he should have gotten nothing ... ugh ... killed me this year.
