Proud to be a Sooner

As far as my team goes, its my biggest downfall here. I love my Sooners so much, that I get carried away talking about them, and take it on this site further than I do outside this site. That loss last night is the most painful in a long time. To lose a winnable Championship game is huge, but this was the year we have been waiting for. 4/5ths of our OL are Seniors, as well as our best 2 WR. Gresham is a lock to leave for the NFL, and with so many loses on offense, Bradford is also expected to go. So this was the year we as Sooner fans were looking forward too. To get this opportunity even after the Texas loss, and give up those 1st half opportunities is the most painful part of this for me.

I take nothing away from Florida, they won fair and square and it wasnt a fluke. IM obviously disappointed things didnt go the way I wanted, but at the end of the day, my team lost.

Stoops had his troops prepared, which was a huge relief considering the past 3 BCS games. But win or loss, I love my Sooners, and I can stand here today and say Im proud to be a Sooner even after 5 BCS loses in a roll, and another lost championship opportunity.

Classy post, sarge. At least you can say you had a shot, which is more than most can say. This game was supposed to be all about the offenses. I'm hearing alot of talk about how horrible this game was. Why? Because it was an unexpected defensive struggle? I tip my hat to both defenses as they both came to play. Florida was fortunate not to be down 21-7 at the half. OU going for it on 4th down was not a bad call IMO. I'd have done the same thing. But UF's defense stepped up when it had to. To hold the highest scoring team to 14 points is something special and if you'd have told me OU would only score 14, I'd have said you were full of sh*t.

Yes, UF is my adopted team since I moved to Florida in 1982. I was biting my nails the entire game. When UF scored, OU answered immediately and that made me very nervous. I feel for you sarge as I would have been bummed out had Florida lost. Bradford is an awesome QB and will make a great NFL QB. For his sake, I hope he doesn't get condemned to the Lions. I always root for a good game when my teams aren't involved. When my team is involved I hope for a blowout. It's much less stressfull. I knew this game would not be a blowout by either team, but I have to admit I thought there would be alot more points scored. When you stay nervous as hell the entire game that tells me something. That means it was a great game. A couple plays could have changed the outcome of this game for sure. But isn't that every game? Sometimes your team just ends up on the short end of the stick. UF survivving those 2 Tebow INTs was the key IMO. I was waiting for UF to finally put the game on Tebow's back and it did indeed happen. But OU still hung around in the end and I finally got to relax a little after the jump pass that put UF up by 10. I say relax a LITTLE and I mean just that. OU had been answering UF scores very quickly and with that offense still had a shot IMO.

Good luck to both teams next year and I wish Sammy B all the best in the NFL as a consensus top 5 pick. He'd be crazy not to leave. Tebow as a consensus 3rd round pick will probably stay if I had to guess. Harvin will be gone. UF still has a shot to be here again next season. And you never know sarge. Your Sooners could be as well even without Bradford.

Nice post Jax. I'm proud to be a Sooner too. They were prepared and played well. Defense looked great against a very good Florida offense. OU has got to put points on the board on those 2 goal line drives. The interception was just a fluke thing. Great pass by Bradford. Would have been a tough catch with 2 defenders all over him and that ball falls to the ground 99% of the time. But the other goal line drive was a bad call on 4th down. I thought they should put the ball in Bradford's hands at that point. Maybe even run a quick sneak.

Regardless, it was a great game and great matchup.

And per inside sources, Bradford will enter the draft. He'd be foolish not to.

Dear God,

Please leave the Oklahoma Sooners alone. I beg you to have mercy on this football program as well as their fans. The heartbreak you have dealt this program is too much for any fan to bear. Last night was one of the most heart breaking things I’ve seen in a long time. Not only did the Sooners lose the game, but it was their 5th straight BCS bowl loss.

I am not a Sooner fan, but I am as close to one as any forum poster non-fan could. I post in a forum with several Sooner fans. LiL10(s)ArEaJoKe , Double Agent & a few others who are not die-hard, but they support the Sooners. Sarge on the other hand is a Sooner diehard fan since as long as I've been posting on this forum.

Sarge has posted through the great Sooner wins ...as well as the bad ones. He watched my LSU Tigers beat his Heisman led Sooners in 2003 NC game. He watched his Stoops led team get destroyed by USC. He watched Little Boise State pull the greatest upset in BCS history and then saw a mid major West Vagina upset his heavily favored Sooners the very next year.

He then watched the hero of Oklahoma, Bob Stoops, get his team's swagger back posting 60 plus points of offense in every game played since Oct 25th. Only to watch them lose 24-14 to the SEC Florida Gators in the BCS NC Game.

He's watched all five BCS Bowl losses. I have often asked him what he thought after each one. He always answers with a polite congratulatory post while I'm sure he's shaking his head.

He watched as the Sooners dominated the Big 12 since my arrival to the forum. He watched as that dominance disappeared with "Oregon Onside Kick Miracle." To this day he despises all Pac 10 officials.

There are few things in sports more demoralizing than "losing a BCS NC." The only thing I could think of that would hurt more...is having to watch it again.

So there he was on his knees watching ever so attentively as Bob Stoops led his team to the same #1 ranking as he did in 2003 and 2004. I found myself almost praying for a Sooner win, for his sake.

Then I watched as his team again fall short again like in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007. Sarge posted seconds after the loss, his post read like a man who was just forced to watch one of the most haunting moments in his life all over again.

Yet, despite this...Sarge is still a fan of the Oklahoma Sooners. I ask myself, how can a man endure such heartbreak and still return to this college forum every season? It is the same reason that we all support our own teams.

It is the same reason we support our own teams, because there is always the next play, there is always the next game, and there is always next year. He is still a fan because the game is constant. His team doesn't break up with him, find new friends, or die. The Sooners are always there on Saturday with a new opponent, a new plan of attack, and a new hope that they will emerge victorious.

Because when it comes down to it, it isn't wins that bind a team to its fans. It is the experiences they have shared together. Sarge is a fan because one day it will happen. One day the team will rise above the heartbreak. One day the team will conquer the BCS and once again be crowned a winner.

One day, the Oklahoma Sooners will again win a BCS Bowl.

Please God, give Sarge what he so desparately wants and needs. Give him a BCS National Championship.

Sincerely,

Rockerbraves, former Buffalo Bill Fan

P.S.: Of course, not next year...GEAUX TIGERS! And Fear the Hat!

Great post Sarge!

One of my very close co-workers is a huge Sooner as you are, we have a bunch of fun with OU/Texas all year long. Today was a tough day for both of you, as we recapped all that changed last night's game at work today, he told me his 13 year old son brought his room full of OU garb downstairs from his room last night to watch the game with Dad, it was a very tough night in the end.....he told me as his son awoke for school today, he said he did not want to go, but just as you come in hear and post a congrats to the Gator Nation, my co-worker told his son to get dressed for school. "Tell your friends that Tebow played a great game, and that you wished Bradford played just a little bit better". "Don't let it bother you, tell your friends that we'll be back again soon".

Pretty cool stuff, but in the end it's just a game....Pac 10, Big 12, SEC who is the best, who would have beat whom, who is down, who is up? When it is all said and done....who cares as long as we all enjoy the game, and Sarge, even though you came out on the short end last night....I know you enjoyed the heck out of last night and the entire season!! See you next year, can't wait to hear you talk up your boys....and Texas is gonna getcha again next year....peace!

Sarge, I see this post and other posts when you discuss college football utilizing acumen. Those posts I enjoy. However, much of the time, Sarge is just Sarge. I'm not sure if it's your personality, schtick (as you claim), or more likely--a combination of the two. The fact is, when you post most of the time, I tend to discount your opinion. I simply don't know what is your opinion anymore and what is a load of bullschit whose primary purpose is to piss off others.

You clearly watch a lot of college football. You clearly are an OU homer. There is nothing wrong with being a homer but IMO, there is something wrong when you post your opinions and come across as a genuine prick. I think it's great to have a debate. Utilizing name calling and conducting oneself as a prick, again IMO, significantly detracts from any debate.

I've said all along that OU is a great program. I love Bob Stoops and give him a great deal of credit for Florida's first NC as he was our defensive coordinator that season. Good luck next season.

Not to rub salt in the wound.....but this was pretty funny.

Ill say this for Stoops, he has given Sooner fans 6 Big 12 Championships, been in the game 7 times, and led us to 4 NC games. All of this in 10 years.

Losing to Boise St and W Va, has taken away from playing against quite possibly a better team in all 4 NC games.

OU beat heavily favored Fla St in Miami 13-2

OU lost to LSU, in New Orleans 21-14

OU lost to SC, which some consider the best college team ever.

OU lost to FLA, in Miami 24-14

In 3 of those games, the opponent clearly had a decisive advantage of fans at the game, playing in their home state.

Im as sick as anyone about another lost title opportunity, but I give FLA all the credit in the world for making plays when they had to, to win the game.

If Im Bob Stoops Id be proud of what I accomplished. Not many coaches can say they have taken their team to 4 NC games in 10 years, and winning the first one is huge. Ask Buffalo how it feels to not win any of those 4. Id take 1-3 over 0-4 anyday.
