Capt. Stanky
I like to get opinions when the previous season is still fresh in our minds. Here's my list: 1.Brees 2.PManning 3.Rivers 4.Warner 5.Romo Who do you think warrants a spot in the top 5 that I've left out? Please give us all some insight as to why you think that player should make the top 5. Edited January 12, 2009 by Capt. Stanky
Randall
Redraft or dynasty? I'd have to include Brady. With the talent over there even if he misses a few weeks he could finish in the top 5.
Avernus
redraft: 1. Brees 2. Warner 3. Cutler 4. PManning 5. Rivers 6. Romo 7. McNabb 8. Brady 9. Rodgers 10. Matt Ryan
i_am_the_swammi
Fantasy-wise, I like your top-2. if Warner returns (which appears more and more likely the deeper they go in the playoffs), he's my #3. Brady is my #4, obviously pending his health. Rivers and Romo? They are in the mix with the rest of the Tier 2 QBs, which include: Rodgers (should be better his sophmore starting season) Cutler (healthy RBs should make him better, taking pressure off the passing game) McNabb (in that offense, usually a lock for 22-25 TDs) Hasselback (who I think has a terrific comeback season with the return of Walter Jones and a full-season of healthy WRs) Ryan (should only continue to improve) Palmer (health an issue, but they should be passing as much as usual) Sleeper: Schaub...if he stays healthy, there is no excuse for him not to produce big numbers with targets like AJ/Walters/Daniels. Of course, much of these rankings depend on team's schedules, and the quality of their own defenses. Poor defenses lead to teams falling behind, and being forced to play catch-up and air it out. I haven't really considered any of those factors.
Azazello1313
I would say manning brees and brady (assuming healthy enough to start the season) are the top tier. nobody else worth thinking about until the middle rounds, and I'd probably put cuter, romo, rivers and mcnabb at the top of the remaining heap. MTSuper7
1) Brees - This should be a given 2) Manning - So should this 3) Rivers - Became very pass friendly this year, and with LT one year closer to done and no heir apparent "stud", they seem likely to pass a lot (in the red zone particularly). It will also help if their defense is crappy again. 4) Warner - Age and loss of Boldin have me skeptical, but hard to ignore the year he has had. 5) Rodgers - The Packer offense has the right personnel to put up nice yardage throwing the ball, and they were pretty lousy on defense last year, which could spell really big things for Rodgers. My thoughts on... Romo: Took a step backwards in 2008. Seems questionable whether or not Jason Garrett will still be there as well. But you could certainly argue him in the top five with the weapons on offense. Cutler: New coach and new offense to learn (assumably) make me skeptical on the offense clicking right out of the gates. But he has a really high ceiling, which makes him a nice risk/reward pick if it pans out. Schaub: Injury prone makes me nervous, but that offense was firing on all cylinders at the end of 2008. Their D seems to be improving though, and the running game actually looked decent, so not sure if they'll need to rely on the pass as much. Brady: Coming back from injury, I presume he will be rusty. I don't like the risk with him as a top 5 pick. Let someone else reach early for him.
FishFreak
Man I would just love it if Romo fell out of the top 5. I would gobble him up in my fantasy drafts in a heartbeat. Sure the guy is a turn over machine and shaky in the big games but he still puts up big fantasy points. It's not like the Dallas O is lacking weapons either. My top 5: 1. Brees 2. Manning 3. Rivers 4. Romo 5. Cutler Brady is top 3 hands down if healthy. Warner and Rodgers make a strong argument for being in the top 5 but barely miss the cut IMO. godtomsatan
1. Brees, 2. Brady, 3. Rodgers, 4. Cutler, 5. Romo I don't penalize Brady that greatly. There may be some residual dropoff, but on a weekly basis, he'll be up there. 3 early sleepers:: Cassell if he ends up elsewhere. Matt Ryan. Trent Edwards if he's the starter. MTSuper7
3 early sleepers::Cassell if he ends up elsewhere. Matt Ryan. Trent Edwards if he's the starter. I have a hard time seeing Cassel being a reliable fantasy starter on a different team. Just seems like a lot to learn for a guy to step in and get a new playbook, develop rapport with new teammates, etc. I agree that Edwards has looked capable, but the playcalling in Buffalo will continue to hinder his ability to be relied upon as a fantasy starter. Are they looking at replacing Jauron or the OC?

MTSuper7
Wow a QB gets taken out with a low tackle and he drops off your Top 5 Lists. By the time Brady plays another meaningful game, it will have been at least 19 months since his last full NFL game (and that's only if he starts the 2009 season). Whereas he might end up a top 5 QB, he's too risky to consider drafting as a top 5 QB at the moment. If he gets reps in training camp and plays some preseason, maybe the outlook changes. But there is no reason to rush Brady back with Cassel having played well this past season.
WaterMan
I never knew a QB threw the ball with his knees. Wow.

Clubfoothead
I never knew a QB threw the ball with his knees. Wow. I never seen one throw from a wheelchair, either. I like to tier players in no particular order: Brees Rivers Manning Romo Brady Rodgers Cutler McNabb Ryan I have no idea what to do with Warner and Hasselbeck until camp but I assume they will both make themselves onto my draft list. I can't see myself being in any rush to draft a QB again next year.
