Chief
ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz interviewed with the Detroit Lions for a second time Monday about the team's head coaching vacancy. The chance to lead the NFL's first 0-16 team seemed to only motivate him to get the job and succeed at it. Jim Schwartz Defensive Coordinator, Titans Pro experience: Titans: 1999-present Ravens: 1996-98 Browns: 1993-95 "I don't shy away from a challenge," Schwartz said at a news conference that was scheduled as part of his day at the team's headquarters. Schwartz said he expected to meet with team owner William Clay Ford as part of his visit. http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8...mp;confirm=true I hope this is a step in the right direction, although everyone seems to think Spag would be better. It can't be any worse if nothing else.
MTSuper7
Marinelli didn't shy away from a challenge either. Truth be told, it doesn't matter who the Lions pick as head coach. Wake me when the decision makers for that franchise are replaced with competent ones.

Puddy
I can only think of that poor kid in A Christmas Story who got beat by his mom after Ralphie blurted out "Schwartz" when asked where he heard the f-bomb he dropped after dropping the lug nuts. He had it coming though for triple dog daring Flick to stick his tongue to that pole.
CaP'N GRuNGe
I bet she gives great helmet. I can see it now... The Raiders have this guy in the stands on Sundays. While the Lions will have this guy. The only question is who gets the suit first - puddy or egret. I hope they hire Spag or Schwartz, that means Rivera comes back (hopefully) to the CHargers for at least another year!
Square
I hope they hire Spag or Schwartz! Honestly, I think both of those are good choices for Detroit and wouldn't complain about either.
tazinib1
Don't be surprised if Ron Rivera gets the job. I believe he's headed there today for an interview. I would hate to see him go as our DC, but he deserves a HC stint.

I hope he hangs around for at least 1 more year as the Chargers DC. I'd love to see what he could do with Merriman back in action and with a healthier and humbled Cromartie looking to return to form. policyvote
Schwartz or Spagnuolo I'd be thrilled with. I think Frazier is equally as strong of a coach as those two, but I don't think his Dungy-ish 'strong silent type' style is the right fit. Bowles I don't know enough about yet, and I don't like that he's not a coordinator. I think Rivera could be a great fit, especially if we don't have to start from scratch with the defensive personnel. Peace policy

Yep, sounds like he's a high energy, positive guy with a strong defensive background and he's up for the challenge, so more power to him. Good luck Lions. Furd
Schwartz will be one and done as an NFL head coach in a few years. Detroit - where head coaches go to die.

Did you think Detroit was going to get a better hire? I mean it IS an NFL head coaching job, but it doesn't really compare to some of the Denver / Jets positions that are available. Schwartz seems to have a good background and I'm at least optimistic at this point. Cowher / Dungy types don't come out of retirement to take a position at a place like Detroit so I see no reason to be down right now. We'll have to see what kind of a staff he can put together. I listened to Detroit sports radio for a bit yesterday. The host was saying that the Lions have managed to suck the fun out of getting a new coach. While people should be excited, we've seen too many coaches come in setting the bar high only to never be heard from again.
