Mock Draft 1.0

It looks like there are 4 elite offensive tackles in the draft.

As for the Vikings, I could see them drafting a OT, but I would really like them to go after a quality QB in the 1st round even if that means trading away a player or draft picks to move up.

I agree - I would love to see the Vikings trade away picks and reach for a QB in the first round when the QB class this year stinks. I think I would enjoy seeing Sanchez fail in those beautiful purple spamshirts.

IF the Vikings are going to trade for a QB then then need to talk to NE. I have no problem giving up a 1st and 3rd for a proven commodity (Cassell) versus giving up the same picks to reach for an unproven Rookie!!

My take on the two teams I follow closest:

The Lions need help everywhere, but they will probably take one of those 4 OLs you mention with #1 overall. They could also grab Matt Stafford at QB, but I don't think that QB is their biggest need (Orlovsky didn't look all that bad IMO). That means they would be foolish to not take a defensive player at #20. Maybe a guy like Laurinaitis (too high?) or Maulauga (probably won't be there). I could also see them going DB (Malcolm Jenkins or Vontae Davis). What I really wish they would do is trade down for a couple of extra picks, because they need so much help that they'd be way better off with the extra picks. But they won't do that... It makes too much sense. (It also might be difficult to offload their #1 pick). And they'll probably go LB with pick #33 - Cushing from USC or maybe Sintim from VA.

The Broncos are definitely going defense with their first rounder. They need to stop the run. B.J. Raji or Gerald McCoy might be there at #12. I wouldn't mind seeing them get a fierce ILB like Maulauga, and he's familiar with the 3-4 already. Definitely one of these guys though. They will also have to address the secondary at some point too. A guy like Rashad Johnson would be an upgrade at safety. Getting a defensive tackle would work in round 2 as well.

rumors swirling in Philly that, despite Lurie saying McNabb would be staying put, that the Vikes and Bears are top locations for McNabb to land. Price said to be a 1st & 3rd. If true, would give Philly 3 1st rounders this year, 2 2nds, & 2 3rds.

just unsubstantiated chatter, but also reported on No Offseason yesterday.

Philly would likely use the picks on an OT to replace Tra Thomas or Runyan (they won't resign both), and possibly a big RB to complement Westbrook.

Not me. If the Vikings had a real QB they would be harder to mock.

Seriously though how has John David Booty looked?

The very definition of a system QB. This kid is going to fall on his face once he leaves the friendly shadow of Tom Brady.

I'm not so sure about that. He wasn't a starter at USC but was recruited and has talent. I believe he's a project because he hasn't had a lot of playing time, but see him as more than just a system QB too. If he goes where there is talent like Minnesota I think he can succeed, but it'll probably take a few years.

Much like a rookie.

I disagree. Whereas I don't think he will necessarily be a pro-bowl QB, he'd be an upgrade for a lot of teams. Minnesota definitely comes to mind. And he could even become a pro bowl QB on another team after given a year or two to learn the playbook, develop rapport with new WRs, etc.

Without Randy Moss, Welker, and an incredibly good O-Line, he is going to be a disaster. He moves almost as slowly as Brady in the pocket and doesn't have the rocket arm to make up for it. He doesn't read defenses particularly well. He is pretty accurate, which will help. The Minnesota situation might be okay for him, but other than that, if he doesn't land in the perfect situation, he is going to be tragic. Most teams that are looking for a QB aren't going to be that kind of perfect storm situation. If he lands in a bad situation, he won't last two years as the starter.

One of the big stud OLinemen would certainly make sense as many think that's the building block of a good franchise.... especially seeing that there may be no Matt Ryans or Joe Flaccos in this draft. That said, Stafford might be a poor pick. I actually think Stanton has more talent than Orlovsky, and if he's healthy during camp, might just show that. With their #20 pick, they would be crazy to not pick Laurinitis. Nuts. Loco. Plain stupid. Malauga won't be there, but Laurinitis is a great fit with what they have at LB.

Speaking of Malauga, I see him going to the Broncs, as you suggest.

If in Minnesota he will have AP and Taylor plus a good offensive line and defense to take pressure off. It isn't as good as New England I don't see it as a disaster either. I actually think he'll stay in New England. They need a good backup for Brady.

i wouldnt mind seeing the pats swap cassel for the vikings 1st

id love to see the pats sitting with two first rounders in the 20's and grabbing any combo of cushing, william moore, or the corner they prefer

cushing to me would be like adding a young vrabel...this kid physically is a monster...theyre doing something out there in so cal...cause if youve seen cushing when he was in high school and what he looks like now? wow...and clay mathews jr. i believe was about 175 in high school.....but putting cushing out there down the road with mayo would be nice

like william moore alot...missouri struggled a bit this year and moore was banged up at times...he didnt really shine like he should have and i think his stock has dropped a bit....some had him as a top 10 guy going into the year...he could be a nice bargain and form a pretty nice tandem with brandon merriweather....merriweather is getting there...

two years ago i touted eric wright as my fav corner in the draft....hes been pretty decent...and will get better...and a better pass rush would help....last year i touted DRC and tracy porter as my favs..,..everyone knows DRC...and porter was starting and playing real well in new orleans before getting hurt....ive yet to study this years corner crop in depth....im sure ill find somebody ill fall in love with for the pats
