jaxfactor
No way the dude retires IMO. They were 2 min. away from a title. If the Bidwells really mean business, they'll put out the cashflow to keep him. But at what cost? And does he sign a one year or 2-year deal? Being that Cassell just got franchised for 15 mil, will it cost the Cards at least that much to keep Warner? Should be a fairly interesting offseason. Jackass
No money, but they need to promise that at his deathbed he will have eternal consciousness.
Skippy
I don't think he is all about the money. I think it is more about pride. I think if they came and told him that he is for sure the number one qb and that they now see that the only way to the SB is with him at the helm, 1mil would do the trick. BeeR
no way would he play for a mil, but he might take a cut for another shot.
Bill Swerski
I dunno, I don't think money is as important to him as, say, Boldin. I think he'd stay if they dumped a lot of money into the rest of the team. Maybe keeping Boldin happy, signing guys like Julius Peppers, whatever. I agree that would be the best way to convince him to stick around. That said, I think that he retires. The Cardinals had a nice run, but I don't see a level of talent on that team that would make them the favorites to get back to the SB next year... or even the playoffs, for that matter. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't see it. I'm also not sure that Boldin wants to stick around and play second-fiddle to Fitz.
muck
Resign Boldin. Sign Peppers. Resign Warner. ...in that order...
Wolverines Fan
If this salary cap number from draftsharks.com is right, Arizona definitely has some $$ to work with. And the player remarks are from their report too: 2. Arizona -- $41m under – Charley Casserly quoted this astounding figure on CBS last week. It’s kind of deceiving because few teams have as many big names to re-sign. They only have 37 players under contract this year. QB Kurt Warner, DE Bert Berry, DE Antonio Smith and LB Karlos Dansby are free agents. Would Warner stay on a discount so he can stay with Larry Fitzgerald? Obviously WR Anquan Boldin wants more money. WR Steve Breaston warrants an extension. They can cut RB Edgerrin James and DE Chike Okeafor and free up $7m. Overall there’s no reason why Arizona can’t sign studs like DE Terrell Suggs (who went to ASU), C/G Jason Brown (another stud Raven), and maybe RB Darren Sproles (change-up for Hightower?). Jackass
I think it'd be cheaper to just draft a guy in the fourth round than what Sproles would likely ask for. it'd be cheaper to bring in maurice clarett but what does that have to do with anything. j2v
The number they've been talking about for Warner is in the $9 mil range. Considering it would be $14 mil to franchise Cassel that seems like a bargain, but maybe that's where the hometown discount comes in. Didn't Warner say he didn't want to uproot his family, so if he comes back next year it's virtually a certainty to be in Arizona? They could even make it a two- or three-year deal to spread out any cap hit with an understanding that Warner might walk early.

The problem that I have with this is if you give Warner that you might as well cut your losses with Matt Lineart. Its time for him to take the reins now. He will be in that system for a 3rd year. The team is young and if this is not done now the chance to be back multiple times will be lost for an aging Warner. Do I believe he could get us back next year yes. But I also believe if Matt does get his chance next year his mental state will be in shamables. At some point you got to let the guy learn on the fly. If you don't and Warner plays this year and the retires we take steps back. The repore must be built now and if it is we will have a nice 5 year window to possible get back 2 or 3 times possibly before our WR's it there 30's. I can only think of what type of FA they could acquire this year or next. But the sickest person has to be Calvin Pace he went for the money instead of waiting it out and missed out on the turn around he knew was going to happen. *****Remember Kurt is 37 or 38. Time is not on his side.

At his age he wouldn't want to learn a new system. $1mil may do the trick if there are a lot of incentives.
muck
But I also believe if Matt does get his chance next year his mental state will be in shamables. It worked pretty well for Steve Young to cool his jets behind Montana for a couple of years...not saying Leinart is Young, but that sitting around and getting some seasoning isn't a bad thing for someone who has shown that they're not up to it (yet).
