I think if you go back and look at it, you'll find the schools that load up on the 4 and 5 stars recruits are the ones who compete for all the marbles, so they're not worthless. It is obviously an inexact science and guys like Bradford over produce while some 5 star guys will disappoint. However, rare is the school that competes year in and year out despite having few top recruits. Pointing out guys like Bradford is like gamblers talking about their wins. Berry and James Jackson add the speed we need and love to see local boy Storm Klein in the Scarlet and Gray. I was disappointed in losing Marlon Brown, however felt it was a long shot anyway and I breathed a sigh of relieve when Marcus Hall's LOI was signed sealed and in the hands of OSU coaching staff. GO BUCKS. Michigan's class looks pretty good as well. Rich Rod will have them back soon. I don't know if that's good or bad. USF The USF Bulls have gotten a taste of the big time, and they're not anxious to give it up any time soon going after getting players they expect to make an impact right away. USF is bringing in eight junior college or postgrad players including five-star defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul and four-star defensive tackle Leslie Stirrups. It's not all about the older players though, as Tampa native Ryne Giddins is the No. 12 defensive end in the country by Scout, and is a landmark recruit of sorts for the Bulls. He's the first high school player that was heavily pursued by "the big three" of Florida, Florida State, and Miami, and chose USF. The Bulls have had more success on the field than two of the big three the last couple of years, and recruits are taking notice. I'll add that they also landed two UA all-americans among 5 signees that were ranked top 25 nationally at their respective positions. Making strides, baby!!! GO BULLS!!! < excitement tempered with> Leavitt and his staff are out doing themselves each year on the recruiting trail. I've said this before and I'll say it again... they have a whole buncha talent and Leavitt has shown he can build a program, now let's see if they can actually coach them. Not calling my shot here or anything, just looking at high end potential, but with both the Seminoles and Hurricanes on the schedule this coming season next year's recruiting class could be even better. Square Posted February 6, 2009 Share Posted February 6, 2009 Nebraska's recruiting class (1st full one under coach Bo Pelini) was ranked 27th by rivals.com and a little lower on scouts. Something like 4th or 5th in the big 12, BUT as a guy who sat through the big hype machine of Callahan recruitment classes just to see players not develop into much, I think Bo has an idea of what he is doing. Looking for smart football players with winning attitudes and work ethic. QB Cody Green of Dayton, TX and running back Rex Burkhead of Plano, TX are probably their highest ranked recruits. I'm a little sour on recruiting ranks in general so I'm not too worried. ND has had high recruitment classes for years and we've all seen how bad the product on the field is. Charles had the speed, but relied to much on it most of his career. It wasn't until his last year that he started running between the tackles. In college football recruiting 5 and 4 star players is much like a NFL team drafting 2 or 3 first rounders. Granted there's no guarantee a 1st rounder or a 4 or 5 star player coming out of HS will be more successful, but it does seem to increase those odds. Here's a breakdown I found that shows the top 5 teams with the highest star rankings over the past 5 recruiting seasons. Some fairly nice success with the exception of Notre Dame. Rivals: 1. USC - 3.99 2. Florida - 3.89 3. Ohio State - 3.75 4. LSU - 3.72 5. Texas - 3.70 Scout: 1. USC - 4.09 2. Florida - 3.89 3. Ohio State - 3.76 4. Texas - 3.75 5.
