Footballjoe
(Rotoworld) Marshawn Lynch was arrested in California last Wednesday night on felony charges of possession of a concealed firearm. Analysis: He was found with the loaded weapon when police offers on patrol came across Lynch and two other men in a 2006 Mercedes Benz. Lynch is currently free on bond, but considering the seriousness of the charge he may have to serve jail time. This is his second run-in with the law as a pro, which also puts Lynch at major risk of opening 2009 on suspension. Lynch was investigated for hit and run in June 2008 after allegedly striking a female pedestrian and leaving the scene. I do not think this was posted yet. Randall
And so another keeper bites the dust. Last year he hit a pedestrian with his car and drove away. He hunkered down and refused to talk t the cops and got away with it. He seems lawyer up like he's done these things before.

ROYALWITCHEESE
LOL Let's hear from those Lynch appologists who argued with me after last year's incident, saying he is a "good guy." Or is this just another case of the man keeping him down?

Or is this just another case of the man keeping him down? I've met Lynch personally, and I still do stand by my statements I think he's a good guy. Does he seem to make poor decisions? Absoluteley. But I also saw him spend a good deal of time playing with children and going out of his way to talk with fans as well. Doesn't quite seem like something a "bad guy" would do. Carrying a loaded gun? Probably not the smartest thing he's done - but apparently everyone else in the NFL is doing it. The NFL continues to show us that you can take the player out of the hood, but you can't take the hood out of the player. I'm not making excuses for him - the stuff he's done has been stupid. But does it really mean he is a "bad person?" He's no Rae Carruth or Ray Lewis.
Jenkinssssss
wonder what the circumstances were to get the cops to approach them? no mention on espn either: The statement noted officers spotted three men in a 2006 Mercedes Benz and recognized Lynch as the Bills' running back. "A subsequent field investigation led to the discovery of a loaded firearm," the report said. "The officers determined the gun belonged to Lynch and he was arrested for possession of a concealed firearm."

When Matt Jones was nabbed they said several people were in a vehicle at night in a parking lot. I wondered what probable cause there was there too. It is just the idiot ghetto boys that think it is cool and need to show that they still hang with home boys that carry a loaded gun. Pretty sure the Manning brothers don't - pretty sure Mark Taucher does not - pretty sure Brady Poppinga does not - pretty sure Drew Brees does not and the list goes on. Kid Cid
Why is it athletes think they need to carry loaded guns around? There was an interesting article in ESPN magazine a couple of months back on this topic. Part of it is that they are higher profile targets given their noteriety (hey, he's ___________! I know he's got money!), part of it is that some of them continue to live like they are still part of the block and have their old posse. They continue to put themselves in situations where a firearm may be necessary for their personal protection. The estimates in the article were that upwards of 80% of NFL'ers own firearms and about 40-50% actively carry. It should also be noted that the Sean Taylor incident REALLY freaked out a bunch of people, especially Clinton Portis.

No, but I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that they do have armed security with them during public appearances. Being a high profile sports guy or gal can be quite a daunting proposition at times. Being a high profile sports guy or gal can be quite a daunting proposition at times. That's true. Why don't they have those guys with them when they go out? Have someone else carry the gun. Or at least get a concealed carry permit. Yes they are in danger many times from angry fans or people that want to make a name for themselves, but do it properly. I would think the NFL has dealt with this and given advice on the matter.
NAUgrad
I think the majority of players' like Lynch have problems like this not because of who they are, but because of who they hang out with. The problem generally seems to come from continuing to hang out with the same people from college or high school or whatever and the whole group tends to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
