"Anquan's Deadline"

"For the past couple days, I heard receiver Anquan Boldin's willingness to re-sign with the team came with an expiration date. Boldin told XTRA-910's Mike Jurecki today that the deadline is Tuesday. By then, Boldin wants a serious offer from Cardinals. If he doesn't get one, he wants to be traded."

I've read that Boldin has 2 more years on his current deal and that the Cardinals aren't in any rush to work out a new deal yet as they have bigger concerns. This should be interesting.

Pure speculation from Profootballtalk.com:

AGENT SAYS WARNER WILL PLAY IN 2009, BUT WHERE?

Posted by Mike Florio on February 20, 2009, 4:27 p.m.

Last Friday, Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner said that he’d know more about his football future in “a couple weeks.”

Only seven days later, Warner apparently has reached a conclusion.

“He’s decided he’s going to play,” agent Mark Bartelstein said, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Sun-Times. “He’s made up his mind. He wants to play and he always wanted to play.”

The question becomes where he’ll play.

“We’re not going to fool anybody,” Bartelstein said. “He’d like to stay in Arizona. That would be his first choice. But he owes it to himself and his family to have an open mind. If we can get a deal done with the Cardinals, great. If not, then obviously you’ve got to look at free agency.”

Not long ago, Warner was suggesting that he’d play for the Cardinals or no one. Bartelstein’s carefully-crafted words carry a much different message.

The most obvious alternative destination, in our view, is Minnesota.

First, the Vikings play in a dome, Warner’s preferred environment.

Second, they have the best running back in the game right now, which creates all sorts of opportunities in the passing game.

Third, they play in a relatively weak division.

Fourth, this year’s schedule includes three road games in domes, including trips to St. Louis and Arizona.

Fifth, the Vikings dismantled the Cardinals on their home field in mid-December.

Considering the fact that the Cardinals are extremely careful with their money and given the sense of unrest in the wake of the departure of multiple assistant coaches, Warner likely has a better chance of winning that Canton-clincing second Super Bowl in purple.

In unrelated news, the Cardinals have asked the league office whether they can get a “do-over” on their decision to use the franchise tag on linebacker Karlos Dansby.

All true, but no wr's. If they could get Boldin and Fitz then they'd have something.

Source: Cards offer Warner $10M-plus

Arizona and quarterback Kurt Warner have not agreed to a contract extension, but the Cardinals have crossed an important barrier. Arizona is now offering more than $10 million a year to keep him, according to a source.

Highlights of the best moments from Kurt Warner in 2008.

Warner, whose accurate arm and flair for the passing game helped carry the Cardinals to their first Super Bowl appearance, is hoping to land a contract offer that would reflect that he is a top-five quarterback. Top-five quarterbacks make between $14 million and $16 million a year. The Cardinals, according to a source, are believed to be offering between $10 million and $12 million a year.

Warner threw for 4,583 yards and 30 touchdowns last season, completing 401 of 598 passes (67.1 percent).

Both sides have until Thursday night to reach a deal or he will be an unrestricted free agent starting Friday.
