Saturday a Steeler?

ESPN's bottom line says that Colts C Jeff Saturday wants to play G for the Steelers.

What does Saturday have left in the tank ?

Keomeatu is a free agent, and I think the Steelers will let him walk, so, they do need a replacement.

Also, the Steelers are going to let Marvel Smith walk and move forward with Max Starks as the starting LT. This is the right move, as Starks finally started reaching his potential towards the end of the year.

I haven't followed Saturday closely and I'm just wondering what his level of play is at this point in his career.

Doesn't Pittsburgh favor a larger lineman than Saturday at guard? I've heard the knock against him is strength/size.

Hell, if he has anything left, lets bring him in to compete at Center. Justin Hartwig was an improvement over Sean Mahan ( I think I could have been an improvement over Mahan), but, I wasn't overly impressed with Hartwig. I say bring him in, if the price is right, and we will find out where he fits. Our O-Line could use some veteran presence, as they are very young.

I remember Saturday being a pretty dominant player. I have not watched nearly as much of the Colts this year as I have in the past but if he is anything near what he was then I am all in favor of brining him in.

Menudo has hit the nail right on the head with the problems at center. Lets have a look at what Saturday can bring with him.

Saturday's play was down somewhat this year, but I think that can be directly attributed to the knee injury he had in the pre-season. There was talk that he would opt for surgery and miss most of the year, but he gutted it out and came back after three or four weeks. I don't think the knee was ever right last season. He's definitely on the down side of his career, but he's a great blocker. Just ask the Patriots, it was his crushing block on Wilfork that gave the Colts the AFC Championship Game in 2006. He can play both center and guard. He has done both for the Colts.

PFT reports Saturday has re-signed with the Colts. 3 Year deal.

Possibly buoyed by that extra $4 million in cap space that every team picked up on Wednesday, the Colts have agreed to terms with center Jeff Saturday, according to the Indianapolis Star.

It’s a three-year deal.

The Colts have been having serious salary cap problems of late. Earlier this week, they released receiver Marvin Harrison after he balked at a request to reduce his $9 million base salary.

But the Colts reportedly will allow seven other teams to become unrestricted free agents: running back Dominic Rhodes, punter Hunter Smith, linebacker Tyjuan Hagler, defensive tackle Darrell Reid, defensive end Josh Thomas, cornerback Keiwan Ratliff, and safety Matt Giordano.

This is very good news. It gives the Colts another couple years to groom Mike Pollak as Saturday's replacement. It also gives the Colts a lot more depth along the offensive line, as it allows Pollak to stay at guard. Ugoh and Diem are entrenched at tackle, and hopefully Lilja will be back next year and ready to go. That makes Charlie Johnson and Jamey Richard the back-ups. Pretty good group.
